Our recruitment process


Before you apply
Ensure your resume is up to date, including your relevant job and educational information. Try to include enough detail, but not too much – the best resume is no longer than 6 pages.

Search and apply online
Go to our job search page to find a job that matches your interests and experience, and follow the links to apply. If you don't find a role that suits you immediately, remember you can register a Search Agent to be matched to future opportunities.

Reviewing your application
Your application will be reviewed and we will contact you directly to discuss your application, if necessary.

The interview process
Our interview process may be by telephone or face-to-face depending on location and the type of role you are applying for. American Express® uses behavioural or competency based interview guides.

Assessment Centres
For some roles, like those in our Customer Services International Business, you may be invited to an assessment centre. An assessment centre consists of a number of recruitment activities, such as an interview, a role-play and psychometric testing that allow you to demonstrate a range of skills relevant for the role in which you have applied.

Psychometric testing
Like the Assessment Centres, some of American Express' roles involve the use of psychometric testing. These tests are purpose-designed to help fit your personality, work expectations and abilities to a job that suits you.

Remember, each step in the assessment process also allows you to determine whether American Express is the right company for you, and we encourage our candidates to ask as many questions as possible throughout the recruitment process. You are also welcome to request feedback from our consultants at any stage of the recruitment process.
