If you're unlucky enough to be a victim of fraud, it's our job to take care of it.  You won't be held responsible for charges proven to be fraudulent, as long as you have taken reasonable care with your account details. So you can relax and spend securely, anywhere in the world.
 
If there is a problem, we'll try to resolve it as soon as we're alerted. Where applicable, we'll get a replacement Card to you as quickly as possible so you have a new and secure Card number.

Secure System

We're proud of our sophisticated fraud prevention systems.  Whatever you buy, wherever you buy it, the transaction will be processed through our Secure System.

Unlike other card issuers, an American Express® transaction usually involves only three parties; you, the merchant and American Express.
 
The benefits to you are:
• There's less risk of fraud because there are fewer parties involved in the transaction
• We can spot issues as soon as they arise
• We can resolve problems faster where we have a direct relationship with all parties

Our early detection systems are constantly vigilant. We look out for uncharacteristic transactions on your account that we suspect are fraudulent.  If we spot any sign of fraud on your account, we will do all we can to contact you. So it's important to make sure Customer Services has your up-to-date contact details.  If there's a problem; we can reach you and resolve issues quickly. 

Update your contact details online. If you're not enrolled in our Online Services, you will be prompted to register first. Alternatively contact customer services directly.
