Eligibility


To apply online for The Qantas American Express Premium Card you'll need:

  • Your income details.
  • Your address, if you've lived there less than five years we'll also need your previous address.
  • Your driver's licence number (if you have one).
  • Your Qantas Frequent Flyer Number (if you have one).

Approval Criteria


  • You are over 18 years of age.
  • You have a good credit history.
  • You have an annual income of $40,000 p.a. or more.
  • You are a permanent resident/citizen of Australia.
  • If self-employed you have been trading for at least 18 months or 12 months if you hold an existing American Express issued Card.

Terms and Conditions

Applicants must be 18 years of age or over, reside in Australia and earn a minimum income of $40,000 per annum to apply for the Qantas American Express Premium Card. 1. To be eligible for all or part of the 17,500 Qantas Frequent Flyer points offer you must be a new Card applicant who does not currently hold any of the Qantas American Express Card products, apply via the online application by 31 March 2012, be approved and make the required eligible Card spend(s). Points are awarded as follows:

  • 5,000 points after your first purchase on the Card
  • 10,000 points after you spend $500 on purchases on your card within the first 2 months of becoming a Card member
  • 2,500 points after your first Card spend in Australia on selected Qantas products and services.

Maximum number of points available under this offer is 17,500 points. Points are earned in accordance with and subject to the Qantas American Express Card Points Terms and Conditions available here, and exclusions apply. Please allow 6 to 8 weeks after you have made the eligible spend for the points to be credited to your account. 3. Selected Qantas products and services are: (a) Qantas passenger flights with a QF flight number purchased on the Qantas merchant account i.e. directly with Qantas or some travel agents or (b) purchases from Qantas Travel shops. Excludes: Qantas Holidays, Qantas Freight, Jetstar, Qantas branded non-airfare products operated by third parties e.g. Qantas Box Office.

4. Invitations are for Premium Cardmembers and are valid for Qantas operated lounges only and are not valid for oneworld®alliance airline, partner airlines lounges or associated lounges. 5. Classic Award seats are subject to capacity controls and availability is strictly limited particularly around peak times such as school and public holidays. 6. To be eligible for the reduced annual Card fee of $149 for the first year you must be a new Card applicant who does not currently hold any of the Qantas American Express Card products and apply via the online application by 31 March 2012 and be approved. An annual fee of $249 will apply after the first year.

7. As long as your account remains current and in good standing.

8. Please note that the points earned on your Card for a month may be determined on an earlier day to the transactions for that month appearing on your Card statement. Any points earned on your Card in a statement period which do not appear on your Card statement for that period will appear on your next Card statement. For more information click here.

9. Supplementary Cardmembers must be 18 years of age or older. You will be liable for all spending on Supplementary Cards.

10. The Credit Card gives you up to 44 days interest free on purchases, depending on when you make a purchase, when your statement is issued, whether you have obtained a balance transfer and whether or not you are carrying forward a balance on your account from the previous statement period. There are no interest free days for cash advances or balance transfers.

11. Interest rates are current as at 10 January 2012 and subject to change, including changes under our Interest Rate Policy.

14. Provided that you notify us immediately of any fraudulent transactions and you have complied with your Card Conditions, you will not be held liable for any unauthorised charges. "Immediately" means as soon as you are aware but no later than on or after the due date for payment of the statement in which the fraudulent transaction appears.

15. If your Credit Card is lost or stolen, you must report it immediately. You can call American Express 24 hours a day. In Australia, call us on 1300 363 687. If you are overseas, report your lost or stolen Card to the nearest American Express Travel Service or Representative Office. Once you have notified us, you are not liable for any unauthorised charges.
