The Buyer's Advantage program is offered free and exclusively to Personal, Gold and Platinum Charge and Supplementary Charge Cardmembers. It enables you to extend the manufacturer's warranty for up to 12 months on electrical items and covers most products purchased in Australia for personal, non-commercial use, that carry a manufacturer's original warranty of five years or less.

What products are eligible?

Products include but are not limited to:

  • Televisions
  • Refrigerators
  • Freezers
  • Washing Machines
  • Clothes Dryers
  • Microwaves
  • Video Recorders
  • Food Processors
  • Kettles
  • Toasters
  • Irons
  • Answering Machines
  • Watches
  • Video Cameras
  • Walkman
  • Discman

Buyer's Advantage does not cover toys, electronic games, cars and other motorised vehicles.

What's changed?

The New Buyer's Advantage program offers Cardmembers:

  • No requirement for product registration – just keep copies of your American Express Record of Charge, store receipt and manufacturer's original warranty to process future claims.
  • Double the original manufacturer's warranty, up to a maximum of 12 months on both overseas and locally made products(that is, no difference in the warranty extended for Australian-made products)
  • Dollar limits on the items covered under the program, based on Card type held:
    • $7,000 per item purchased for Personal Card members
    • $10,000 per item purchased for Gold Card members
    • $20,000 per item purchased for Platinum Card members

Cover for products where the original manufacturer's warranty is for a period of 5 years or less on all products except those contained on the Buyer's Advantage exclusion list.

How to make a claim

What to do if you need to make a claim:

If the product fails during the Buyer's Advantage warranty period, simply:

  • Call the Buyers Advantage Claims hotline number on 1300 130 517.
  • Present details of your American Express Record of Charge, the original store receipt and the manufacturer's warranty
  • Repairs are coordinated through the Buyer's Advantage team and handled by the original manufacturer's nominated repair network
  • Of course, any previous registrations with Buyer's Advantage will still be covered. All you need to do is call the new number above for your claim.
