Q. When will Pay Bill Online be available?
Pay bill online will launch by the end of October 2007.
Q. What information do I need to set up Pay Bill Online?
You’ll need your BSB (Bank State Branch), Bank Account Number and your American Express Card to hand.
Tip – you can usually find your BSB and Bank Account number on your Bank Account statement.
Q. Can I pay bills for other suppliers through Pay Bill Online?
Pay Bill Online allows you to pay your American Express Card bill only.
Q. What type of Bank Account can I use for as my nominated account?
You can use any Australian financial institution that has an eligible BSB (Branch State Bank) number, please note:
- The nominated account must belong to you
- Overseas accounts are not eligible
- If you nominate a company account you must be a signatory on that account
Q. What portion of my bill can I pay online?

Q. How many days does it take to recognise my payment?
The system acknowledges your payment immediately and the payment will be processed (debited against your balance) within a maximum of three (3) business days.
Q: What do I do if my payment has not been processed after three business days?
Please contact Customer Service on the telephone number printed on the back of your Card.
Q: Why do I need to agree with a Service Agreement?
By agreeing to the Pay Bill Online & Pay by Phone Service Agreement, you’re providing your permission for American Express® to debit your bank account.
Q. Is there a limit to the amount I can pay through Pay Bill Online?
Yes, you can pay up to $100,000 per payment transaction.
Q. Are all Cards eligible to use Pay Bill Online?
Yes, all American Express Cards are eligible to make payments through Pay Bill Online. Personal, Gold and Platinum Reserve Line of Credit are not eligible for payment via Pay Bill Online.
Q. How frequently can I make payments?
You can make an immediate payment once every three (3) business days. You’ll need to allow for the 72 hours processing time between payments.
Q. Can I make an immediate payment after setting up Pay Bill Online?
Yes, you can make an immediate payment of your current statement balance in the first 30 days. After this time you can pay unbilled charges as well.
Q: Can I change my payment once I have submitted the payment online?
Yes, if you have selected a scheduled payment, as long as it’s before the nominated date. However if you have selected immediate payment you will not be able to make further changes to the payment.
Q. Can I change my bank details set up on Pay Bill Online?
Yes, you can update your bank details once every 30 days through “Manage your Bank Information”.
Q. Can I use the same bank details I registered for Pay by Phone payments?
Yes, if you have provided your bank details to make automated telephone payments, your details will be displayed during Pay Bill Online set up. You can also nominate to use an alternate bank account.
Q. What’s the difference between Direct Debit and Pay Bill Online?
If you have set up a Direct Debit (automatic payment plan) a nominated amount will be debited from your bank account on a specific day each month. With Pay Bill Online you have the flexibility to log into the secure American Express website and make immediate payments when it suits you. You can also schedule payments in the future.
Please note it is important to pay your bill by the due date to avoid paying late payment fees.
Q. Can I stop a scheduled payment?
Yes, please ensure you update your schedule payment set up 24 hours prior to the scheduled date.
Q. Can I view my payment history online?
Yes, you can view up to the last 20 payment transactions made through Pay Bill Online.
Q. Can I set up more than one bank account on Pay Bill Online?
Yes, you can set up one bank account for each American Express Card. So if you hold multiple American Express Cards you can have a different bank account for each Card, or use the same bank account for all Cards.
Q. Will I receive confirmation that Pay Bill Online has been set up?
Yes, you will receive email confirmation when you set up Pay Bill Online. Also, as an important security feature, you will receive email confirmation if you update your Pay Bill Online bank account details.
Q. Will I receive a payment confirmation number?
Yes, you will receive a payment confirmation number. The first four (4) digits of this number will be referenced on your next Card statement.
