Late payments can slow down your cash flow, and collecting payments can be costly. Speed up the payment process and improve customer retention with Automatic Bill Payment (ABP) from American Express®. It allows customers with recurring charges to pay you automatically with American Express Cards. ABP is convenient for them, and it helps you get paid on time. |

Customers with recurring bills are more likely to maintain relationships with you when they pay automatically:
- Customers don't have to worry about writing cheques or missed payments even when they're away from home.
- Customers enrolled in one of our rewards programs earn miles, points, or cash back each time a bill is automatically paid.

Recurring billing can improve efficiency:
- No late notices to send or phone reminders to make. Payments are made to your company automatically.
- Allow customers to enroll on the automatic bill payment portion of your website, or through your customer service centers, by giving us a URL and/or customer service number that lists your business as a participating merchant.

Get set up with Automatic Bill Payments:
- System Check. If you already accept American Express, determine that your existing billing systems are capable of storing Card data and charging customers automatically with American Express Cards. If you do not currently accept American Express, you can apply now.
- Participation Review. Once you've determined that your systems can accommodate Card storage and automatic billing, review and submit the required Program Participation Agreement. When you've qualified, American Express will add your contact information to the ABP website directory.
- Processing. Customers who are interested in setting up their bills for automatic billing may request to charge their bills to their American Express Card on a recurring basis. They should provide account information and billing authorization to your business.
- Payment. Submit authorizations to American Express as you normally do. Payments will be automatically deposited to your account, speeding up the collection process.
- Transaction Completion. American Express will complete the process by billing Cardmembers the required amount on their monthly American Express statements.

If I decide to participate in the Automatic Bill Payment from American Express, do I still have to send billing statements to my customers?
Yes. Customers who want their recurring charges billed to an American Express Card will still expect you to send them a billing statement and to handle any disputes directly. However, once a customer has signed up for ABP, he or she may choose not to receive a bill if you have electronic bill presentment capabilities, which enables Cardmembers to view their billing activities online.
Does American Express market the Automatic Bill Payment program?
Yes. American Express promotes the ABP program through various print and electronic channels that may include direct mail, newsletters, statement inserts, statement messaging, banner ads, the American Express ABP website, newspapers, magazines, and radio.
