To welcome American Express® Cards, there is no need to open a separate bank account your charges will be automatically deposited into the bank account of your choice.
If you prefer, you may open a Business Investment Saving Account (BISA) and have your charges deposited directly to your account and earn daily interest. BISA offers you the opportunity to increase the speed of your payments, combined with unlimited chequing and banking transactions and a monthly statement, for one low flat fee.

To help you track your American Express business, you will receive a monthly Merchant Financial Activity Statement. This report summarizes your American Express submissions and payments along with any adjustments that may have been made.

This tool enables you to access your American Express financial information 24-hours a day, wherever you have an Internet connection. - Adjustments
Deductions from the amount payable may result under the following circumstances:
- Charges accepted on expired Cards without obtaining an Approval Code
- Charges made without first obtaining an Approval Code
- A settlement resulting from a Cardmember dispute, returned merchandise or other reasons
- Incorrect Paper/Manual Charge Summaries
Room for error exists when manually preparing Charge Records and Summaries. Avoid the complications listed below by submitting your charges electronically.
- Math errors in completing a Paper Charge Summary
- Incorrect or incomplete Cardmember information on a Charge Record
- Non-American Express charges included in the Summary. (To verify that the charge has been taken from an American Express Card, check the embossed number. All American Express Cards are embossed with a number beginning "37".)
- Incorrect account numbers
- Charges omitted from the Summary.
- Equipment Rental Charges
If applicable, the cost of an Electronic Data Capture terminal or imprinter rental will be automatically deducted from your payment summary.

By choosing to process and submit charges electronically, your business can benefit from greater efficiency and faster payments.
Terminals from any major bank can be set up to process and submit American Express charges. Contact American Express at 1-800-268-9877 for more information on how to begin benefiting from electronic data capture.
If you submit your charges manually, be sure to follow the procedures below to avoid delaying your payment from American Express.
- Ensure that the Cardmember's account number is clearly imprinted on every Charge Record.
- Use only American Express Charge Record and Summary Forms.
- Do not staple or attach a calculator total to your submissions.
- Verify that all total dollar amounts on Charge Records and Charge Summaries are correct.
- Only submit the American Express copy of the charges. Keep the other copy for your records.
- Be sure to use sufficient postage.
- Do not submit your Charge Records without a Charge Summary imprinted with your yellow plastic Summary Card showing your Establishment name, location and number.
- Send in credits in a separate envelope with an imprinted Credit Summary.
- Be sure to use the pre-addressed envelopes provided to you by American Express for your submissions.
- Please ensure to notify American Express of an address or phone number change by calling 1-800-268-9877.
