Our very own royal wedding in Chiang Mai

Where is my elephant?

By the time it was our turn to get married; our group of friends already had weddings of all sizes and themes in Hong Kong. To make ours the most memorable, we had to think outside the box, actually outside of the country. We needed a place that had golf for the men, spas for the ladies and unforgettable experiences for everyone. After a little research, Joe found that Chiang Mai had everything we were looking for, including the romantic backdrop for our wedding, and we sent out the invites right away.

We arrived earlier to prepare for the wedding, making sure that the hotel rooms we redeemed with our Asia Miles™ for special guests would be ready for their arrival. Redeeming Asia Miles using the
American Express Cathay Pacific Credit Card is as easy as earning them.

Planning a wedding anywhere is stressful, so as a break we made our way towards the night market one evening. There was so much to see and eat and while we were busy getting

lost in the maze of the night market, Joe lost his Card. Thankfully, all we had to do was to make a quick call to the 24–hour Global Assist hotline and we had an Emergency Card replacement the next day.

With a possible disaster avoided, the rest of the wedding went exactly to plan. We had our ceremony at a Romanesque–style building called The Castle. It even had a tower! Apparently, when the owner discovered that the bricks of this building resembled the style of European castles, she took advantage by building a fairytale tower. It was such a majestic, beautiful building for our wedding and I felt like royalty all day.

As well as enjoying The Castle, our guests were keen to experience the numerous cooking classes on offer and the elephant treks through the jungle. Everyone got a taste of the real Thailand. Of course, we put everything on our Card to earn as many Asia Miles as possible for our next trip.

On our way home we decided to treat ourselves to a little relaxation and luxury, upgrading our return flight from Bangkok to business class using our Asia Miles. It was the best way to spend our last moments in what became a wedding adventure our guests still talk about to this day.

Travel Tips:

Travellers flying from Hong Kong to Chiang Mai on Cathay Pacific Airways must take a connecting flight from Bangkok. Cathay Pacific Airways operates several daily direct flights to Bangkok International Suvarnabhumi Airport, 3–hour flight time.

Our wedding in Chiang Mai was a fairytale come true. It was a fun and exciting way to start our happily ever after. - Karen and Joe
