What are cookies?

4. American Express Marketing Cookies

   These cookies are placed by American Express to help us ensure that the marketing messages you receive on our website are relevant to you.

     • when used in conjunction with other data we hold about you, such as data about how you use your card, allow us to recognize you when you are logged in and tailor our online marketing and other messages to you

5. Third Party Marketing Cookies

   American Express has relationships with a number of carefully-selected and monitored third-party advertising networks and companies who may also place cookies on your computer for marketing purposes. These 'third-party’ cookies improve the relevance of our advertising, both on our website and across the web where we have advertisements on other websites.

   Our advertising policy is designed to give you the most relevant adverts possible, based on your previous visits to our website, the things you looked at and other data we hold about you such as how you use your card, so we can understand what you might like to see on our website next time you visit. These cookies do not collect any information that can personally identify you.

   Note that all such cookies will be blocked if you choose to ‘Decline’ cookies through our site (see below).

Managing your Cookie Preferences

You can manage your cookie preferences through the American Express website, and/or through adjusting your browser settings:

a) Through the American Express Website

You may choose to either ‘Accept’ or ‘Decline’ marketing cookies from our site by going to the Set Cookie Preferences section in our Privacy Statement. If you choose to ‘Decline’ marketing cookies, essential, functionality and performance cookies will not be blocked.

Any choice you make will not delete any existing cookies previously placed on your computer by our site, but will prevent further cookies from being placed.

If you wish to delete the cookies that are currently stored on your computer, you cannot do this through our site and must instead do this through your browser settings (see below).

Any choice you make on our site will be stored and applied for one year from the date you make the choice, or until you delete all existing cookies through your web browser settings (because if you do this, it will also delete the record of your choice). The next time you access our site after the expiry of the one year period or after deleting your cookies, you will be prompted to provide your choice again.

For a limited period, the choices which you make on some parts of the American Express website will not be reflected when you use other parts of the website. Please be aware that we are currently working on a solution, as your choices are important to us. b) Through your browser settings

If you'd prefer to restrict, block or delete cookies from www.americanexpress.com/ireland or any other website, you can use your browser to do this. Each browser is different and your browser ‘Help’ function will show you how to do this. Please note that if you choose to disable essential, functionality and performance cookies, it will affect how the American Express website works. For example, while you will still be able to view the public website, you won't be able to log on to our secure journey, check your account balances, or make payments.

When you use links to other websites which we provide to you, we recommend that you read the privacy and cookies policies on those websites.

Please note that any choice about cookies that you may have provided on an American Express site will not be honored on non-American Express websites.
