Welcome to Cancun
Since the 70's, Cancun has offered its unique fine, white sand beaches and the blue waters of the Caribbean to tourists from all the world. However, it was until the mid 80's that it reached a great popularity as a favored destination, changing the idea that Mexico only had beautiful beaches on the Pacific Ocean. And there are good reasons for such popularity. Cancun, within the atmosphere of an exotic tropical island, offers from archeological sites to glamorous hotels and ecological reserves. Cancun is located in an area which history can be traced back to the Mayans, whose culture developed during several centuries before the Spaniards arrived. The ruins of Tulum, Coba y Chichen Itza, all of them close to Cancun, are a sample of the magnificence of the Mayans. In fact, a great part of the population in Cancun is of Mayan descent.
