Do I have to use my American Express® Card at specific merchants to earn Membership Rewards® points?
Every NZ$1 you spend on your American Express Card anywhere in New Zealand or overseas will earn you 1 Membership Rewards point.
How long does it take to receive your reward?
Merchandise rewards (e.g. products): a letter confirming your redemption will be sent to your nominated address. Your reward will then be couriered to your nominated address within 14 business days from date of redemption.
Voucher/gift card rewards: either a voucher or a gift card will be mailed or couriered to your nominated address within 10 business days from date of redemption. Please refer to the voucher/gift card for the validity date.
All other rewards (e.g. accommodation, car rental rewards): a certificate explaining how to obtain your reward with the participating partner will be mailed to your nominated address within 10 business days. Certificates are valid for 3 months from the date of issue, unless otherwise indicated.
How long is my Reward Certificate valid?
Rewards certificates are generally valid for three months from the date of issue however some rewards are valid for longer periods. You’ll find the expiry date on the front of each certificate.
Are there any restrictions on when I can use my Reward Certificate, prior to the expiry date?
With a few rewards, there are periods during the year when they cannot be redeemed. See the details on your Reward Certificate for any restrictions. If you are redeeming points for a hotel stay, please ensure you have contacted the hotel to make reservations before you redeem your points.
Can I link other Cards to help me accumulate more Membership Rewards points?
If you hold other American Express Cards eligible to earn Membership Rewards points, these can be linked onto one Membership Rewards Account. You can also earn Membership Rewards points on all Supplementary Cards attached to your Card Account
Will I get Membership Rewards points on Balance Transfers?
Balance Transfers from other credit card accounts are not eligible for Points on the amounts transferred. American Express may offer Points on Balance Transfers as part of specific promotions subject to the terms and conditions of those promotions.
Can I earn Membership Rewards points on my American Express Corporate Card?
Yes, but you need to get approval from your company to join Membership Rewards and an annual Membership Rewards or linking fee of $75 applies.
Do I have to use my Membership Rewards points within a certain time frame?
Unlike many other loyalty programmes, Membership Rewards points do not expire as long as your Card Account is kept in good standing. So you can accumulate points and redeem them as and when you’re ready.
Am I able to purchase points so that I can get to my reward faster?
You can 'top up' your points to fast-track a special reward at any time. Membership Rewards points can be purchased in multiples of 1,000 ($20 = 1,000 points or $20 = 1,100 points for Platinum Cards), with a maximum of 15,000 points per reward. The cost of these points will be billed directly to your Card Account and will appear on the statement immediately following you purchase. Cardmembers can only purchase Membership Rewards Points for the redemption of RapidRewards®.
Does American Express automatically transfer points to my airline partner or frequent guest account?
Points are not automatically transferred to your airline partner or frequent guest account. With Membership Rewards you have the choice and flexibility to decide how and when you would like to redeem your points. A $35 fee per transfer of points to an airline partner programme applies .
Can anyone else redeem points from my Account?
Unless otherwise authorised, only the Basic Cardmember can redeem points accumulated in the Programme Account. To authorise someone else to be able to redeem points a Third Party Authorisation form needs to be completed by the Basic Cardmember. Please call 0800 44 22 08 for this form to be sent to you.
Can I gift my points to someone else?
You are unable to gift points to another person, however you can gift a reward to someone else. Please ensure when redeeming your points you advise the recipient’s name and address of where the reward is to be delivered to.
How long does it take to transfer points into my participating airline partner or frequent guest account?
Provided you are already enrolled in the airline partner or frequent guest programme, it takes 2 to 10 business days (depending on the partner) for your points to appear in your airline partner or hotel frequent guest account.
Can I transfer points into someone else's airline partner or frequent guest account?
American Express points can only be transferred by you into your airline partner or hotel frequent guest account. See the Membership Rewards Terms and Conditions for more details.
If I am enrolled in Membership Rewards with Turbo™ and make a purchase at a Bonus Partner, how many points per $1 spent will I earn?
If you are enrolled in Turbo you will earn 2 Membership Rewards points for every $1 on your spend plus the bonus points relevant for that particular Bonus Partner.
When will my Membership Rewards and if applicable Turbo fee be charged?
Your Membership Rewards fee and, if applicable, Turbo fee will be charged on your first statement following your enrolment and then annually on the anniversary of your enrolment.
If I cancel Membership Rewards or Turbo part way through the year will I receive a refund?
No. Neither your annual Membership Rewards fee nor your Turbo fee are refundable.
