American Express Travelers Cheques appear in a number of designs, currencies, and denominations. Some of the most commonly encountered designs are shown below.
To help protect both merchants and customers, American Express Travelers Cheques are designed with a number of security features. These features, such as the Centurion’s portrait and the holographic foil, help make the Travelers Cheque readily recognizable while others, such as the watermark and security thread, help prevent fraudulent use.

Purchasers of Travelers Cheques immediately sign the Travelers Cheque in the upper left corner. On cashing the Travelers Cheque, the purchaser signs in the lower left corner of the Cheque while the person accepting the Travelers Cheque follows the "Watch & Compare" procedure.
