Home Insurance


Definitions

  1. "American Express" and "Amex" means American Express International, Inc., its affiliates and licensees.
  2. "Card" and "Card Account" means the Basic Card and Account for any Centurion, Platinum, Gold and Personal Charge, Credit, Gold Business and Corporate Cards billed in Singapore dollars.
  3. "Cardmember" means a holder of an American Express Card.
  4. "Enrolment Date" means the first day of the month in which Amex receives the application for enrolment in the Membership Rewards Programme, wither with or without the Frequent Traveller Option. The enrolment date remains the same in the event of transfer from one to the other.
  5. "Enrolment Year" means the twelve-month period commencing on the Programme Enrolment Date and each successive twelve-month period thereafter.
  6. "Frequent Customer Programme" means a participating airline's frequent flyer programme or a participating hotel's frequent guest programme.
  7. "Frequent Traveller Option" means the option to redeem Frequent Traveller Rewards through the programme.
  8. "Frequent Traveller Rewards" means rewards obtained by transferring Points to Frequent Customer Programmes and such other rewards as may be added from time to time.
  9. "Linked Accounts" means all eligible Card Accounts held by a Basic Cardmember, which are enrolled in the Programme and linked for the purpose of accruing Points. Amex will designate one of the Linked Accounts as the "Primary Account".
  10. "Membership Rewards Holidays" - rewards comprising air ticket(s) only or air tickets(s) & hotel accommodation packages to select destinations provided through the Programme to Basic Cardmembers who are enrolled in the Frequent Traveller Option; such rewards do not include land transport or any other benefits unless otherwise expressly advised in writing by American Express.
  11. "Non-Frequent Traveller Option" means the option to redeem only Non-Frequent Traveller Rewards through the Programme.
  12. "Non-Frequent Traveller Rewards" means all rewards provided through the Programme other than Frequent Traveller Rewards including shopping, dining, entertainment, financial services, travel, unique experience rewards and such other rewards as may be added from time to time.
  13. "Points" means Membership Rewards Points
  14. "Programme" means the American Express Membership Rewards Programme and includes both the Frequent Traveller Rewards and Non-Frequent Traveller Rewards.
  15. "Programme Account" means the Membership Rewards Programme Account opened for a Cardmember.
  16. "Service Establishment" means a business or organisation which accepts the Card.

Eligibility

  1. Participation in the Programme (either with or without Frequent Traveller Option) is open to all Cardmembers whose Card accounts are billed in Singapore dollars with the following exception:
    1. Basic Corporate Cardmembers are eligible to enrol in the Frequent Traveller Option only. Enrolment is subject to the approval of the Corporate Cardmember's company and American Express. Enrolled Corporate Cards from the same company cannot be pooled into one Programme Account. Any points earned in respect of a Corporate Card accrue to the respective Corporate Cardmember for his/her personal use and not to the Corporate Account.
    2. Gold Credit Cardmembers on "cash back" option and KrisFlyer Credit Cardmembers.
  2. Except as otherwise restricted herein, all Cardmembers enrolled in the Programme (either Frequent Traveller Option or Non-Frequent Traveller Option) and who have paid the applicable enrolment fee may redeem Non-Frequent Traveller Rewards. Cardmembers who enroll in the Programme with Frequent Traveller Option may also redeem Frequent Traveller Rewards.
  3. American Express Centurion Card, Platinum Charge Card and Platinum Credit Card will be automatically enrolled in American Express Membership Rewards Frequent Traveller Option, and the fee for your enrollment in the Membership Rewards Frequent Traveller Option will be waived for as long as you hold a valid American Express Centurion Card, Platinum Charge Card or Platinum Credit Card which remains in good standing and is not cancelled for any reason.
  4. Points earned by any Supplementary Cards will automatically accrue to the Basic Card Account. Supplementary Cards cannot be enrolled separately from the Basic Card.
  5. Line of Credit Accounts, Business Travel Accounts and other non-Card Accounts are not eligible to participate.
  6. Only Card Accounts in good standing (i.e. not overdue or in collection) at the Enrolment Date are eligible for enrolment.

Fees

  1. An annual fee of S$10 for enrolment in Non-Frequent Traveller Option and S$40 for Frequent Traveller Option will apply. Fees for participation in the Programme,in either the Frequent Traveller Option or Non-Frequent Traveller Option, shall be determined by Amex and notified to Cardmembers from time to time.
  2. An annual fee of S$75 for enrolment of a Corporate Card in Membership Rewards™ programme will apply. Alternatively, a total of 10,000 Membership Rewards points can be used in lieu of the annual enrolment fee. In cases where the Corporate Card is linked to a Primary Card Account this fee of S$75 or 10,000 points deduction will be billed as a Linkage Fee and is in addition to any other fees applicable to the Primary Card Account.

    Corporate Cardmembers who have opted to debit the 10,000 Membership Rewards points will be automatically billed the Membership Rewards Enrolment amount of S$75 to the Primary card Account if there are insufficient points accumulated in the Membership Rewards Account at renewal; No Membership Rewards points will be deducted in this case.

    American Express will bill the Cardmembers' Card Account on the Enrolment Date and automatically annually ("Anniversary Date") thereafter (except in the case of reinstatement after 12 months of cancellation, where it will be billed on the reinstatement date). The fee is non-refundable unless the Cardmember requests cancellation of enrolment no later than 30 days after the anniversary date. American Express will cancel enrolment if the fee is not paid within 45 days after the date of the statement on which the fee is first billed.
  3. An annual fee of S$75 for enrolment of a Corporate Card will apply. In cases where the Corporate Card is linked to a Primary Card Account this fee of S$75 will be billed as a Linkage Fee and is in addition to any other fees applicable to the Primary Card Account. Amex will bill the Cardmemmbers' Card Account on the Enrolment Date and automatically annually ("Anniversary Date") thereafter (except in the case of reinstatement after twelve (12) months of cancellation, where it will be billed on the reinstatement date). The fee is non-refundable unless the Cardmember requests cancellation of enrolment no later than 30 days after the Anniversary Date. Amex will cancel enrolment if the fee is not paid within 45 days after the date of the statement on which the fee is first billed.
  4. A S$20 transfer fee applies for each request for same day or urgent transfers to Frequent Customer Programmes.

Points Accrual

  1. Except for promotional offers, Bonus Programmes and affinity Cards with certain professional associations and Corporate Cards, every Cardmember enrolled in the Programme will accrue two Points in the Programme Account for every S$1.60 spent on goods and services, charged and billed on the Card Account and Linked Accounts (if any). Every Corporate Cardmember enrolled in the Programme will accrue one Point in the Programme Account for every S$1.60 spent on goods and services, charged and billed on the Card Account and Linked Accounts (if any).
  2. No points accrue in respect of:
    1. Charges processed and billed prior to the Enrolment Date or charges prepaid on any Card Account prior to the first billing statement for that Card Account following the Enrolment Date.
    2. Cash Advance and other cash services.
    3. Express Cash
    4. American Express Travellers Cheque purchases.
    5. Charges for dishonoured cheques.
    6. Finance charges - including Line of Credit charges and Credit Account interest charges.
    7. Late Payment and collection charges.
    8. Tax refunds from overseas purchases.
    9. Balance Transfer.
    10. Annual Card fees and Membership Rewards fees.
    11. Pay portion billed for a "Pay + Points" reward, where the Cardmember uses Points along with paying a specific amount to redeem the reward.
    12. Amount billed for purchase of Rewards points to top-up your points balance.
  3. Adjustments will be made to the Points accrued in a Prgramme Account if there are any credits posted to a Linked Account including those arising from returned goods or services or from billing disputes.
  4. Points accrued in a Programme Account are not the property of the Cardmember and are non-transferable, whether by operation of law or otherwise, either to any other person or entity or Programme Account.
  5. Points accrued in the Programme Account have no cash or monetary value.

Points Expiration

  1. Non-Frequent Traveller Option Points and Frequent Traveller Option Points
    1. There is no expiry date for Points earned while participating in the Programme provided, however, American Express reserves the right to institute an expiry date for points whether Points have been accrued or accrued thereafter.98%
    2. If an Enrollee later cancels enrolment, Points already earned that have not been redeemed for rewards or transferred to any participating Frequent Customer Programme, can be carried over for up to 30 days after cancellation. Any Points not redeemed by the end of 30 days after cancellation will be forfeited.98%
  2. Non-Frequent Traveller Points Transferred to Frequent Traveller Option98%.
    1. If Non-Frequent Traveller Rewards enrollees later enroll in the Frequent Traveller Option, Cardmembers have to pay a "Transfer Fee" determined by American Express and notified to enrollees from time to time. However, if Cardmembers redeem all Points already accrued before transferring to the Frequent Traveller Option, no Transfer Fee will be charged.

  1. American Express will notify the Basic Cardmember in the monthly Card statement of the Primary account if the number of Points accrued.

Points Redemption

  1. Points may be converted or redeemed provided all enrolled Linked Accounts are in good standing at the time of the redemption request (including a request to transfer Points to participating Frequent Customer Programmes).
  2. Points accrued in the Cardmember's Programme Account can only be redeemed by the Basic Cardmember.
  3. By redeeming a reward, the Cardmember releases American Express, its subsidiaries and affiliates from any and all liability regarding the redemption or use of any reward, or other participation in the Programme.
  4. Any dispute concerning goods or services received as a reward under the Programme shall be settled between the Cardmember and the Service Establishment, which supplied the goods or services. American Express will bear no responsibility for resolving such disputes, or for the dispute itself.
  5. American Express is not responsible for lost or stolen rewards, reward vouchers, certificates, or tickets.
  6. Redeemed rewards are not exchangeable for other rewards, or refundable, replaceable, or transferable for cash or credit under any circumstances.
  7. Once accrued Points in a Cardmember's Programme Account have been redeemed for any reward in the Programme including a transfer of Points to a participating Frequent Customer Programme, such Points cannot be refunded or transferred back into the Cardmember's Programme Account.
  8. Information may be supplied on the redemption of rewards or transfer of Points to a Frequent Customer Programme may be used by American Express or the Service Establishments that provide the rewards for administrative and marketing purposes.
  9. American Express reserves the right to cancel, change or substitute the rewards or the rewards conditions at any time with or without notice.

Redeeming Non-Frequent Traveller Rewards

  1. All rewards are subject to availability and certain restrictions may apply. The redemption procedure and the Terms and Conditions applicable to each reward is set forth in the rewards voucher issued to the Cardmember.
  2. Any additional meals, transportation or accommodation arrangements made in connection with any reward will be the sole responsibility of the Cardmember.
  3. In the event that the reward takes the form of a cash coupon, should the Cardmember purchase goods or services in excess of the value noted on the cash coupon, the Cardmember must use the Card to settle payment or the difference to the participating Service Establishment.
  4. Unless otherwise specified, the shopping reward in the form of a privilege card or a cash voucher cannot be used in association with other special offers offered by the Service Establishment or during sales.
  5. Issuance of a dining or travel rewards voucher does not constitute a reservation. The rewards voucher holder is responsible for making all reservations and notifying the participating Service Establishments of the reward(s) they are going to redeem.
  6. Other American Express Card benefits e.g. Centurion Travel Insurance, which are activated by Card use, do not apply to goods or services received as rewards under the Programme.

Redeeming Frequent Traveller Rewards

  1. Points may be converted into any one or more participating Frequent Customer Programmes.
  2. To convert accrued Points to any participating Frequent Customer Programme the Cardmember must first join or be a member of the applicable Programme. Enrolment in such Programmes is the Cardmember's responsibility.
  3. The conversion rates for Points into participating Frequent Customer Programmes, minimum Points transfers and incremental transfers vary among participating Frequent Customer Programmes and details are communicated on a regular basis. In any event, Cardmembers should telephone the Membership Rewards Customer Service Hotline for up to date details.
  4. Frequent Traveller Rewards may be redeemed by Basic Cardmembers and points transferred only to Basic Cardmember's account in the Frequent Customer Programme. Cardmembers are subject to and must comply with the Terms and Conditions applying to participating Frequent Customer Programmes in which they are enrolled.
  5. American Express assumes no responsibility for Points converted from a Cardmember's Programme Account into a participating Frequent Customer Programme or for the actions of any participating airline or hotel in connection with its Frequent Customer Programme or otherwise.
  6. Any airline's or hotel's participation in the Programme is subjected to change with or without notice.
  7. American Express Card travel insurance and benefits, including but not limited to those listed below, will not apply to flights taken with frequent flyer tickets, including frequent flyer tickets obtained by using Points converted from a Programme Account:
    1. Travel Accident Insurance.
    2. Travel Inconvenience Reimbursement Plan, Cardmember insurance and travel benefit programmes expressly offering an option for frequent flyer ticket coverage are an exception to the foregoing, but only if the Cardmember has enrolled in such and has paid the fee for, and otherwise complied with the Terms and Conditions of the particular Programme.

Redeeming MR

  1. Basic Cardmembers who are enrolled for Frequent Traveller Option may redeem any number of Membership Rewards Holidays.
  2. Membership Rewards Holidays are subject to availability and participating airline and hotel terms and conditions. Airline ticket and hotel terms and conditions are set out on the ticket(s) and hotel vouchers issued to the Cardmember. Membership Rewards Hotel voucher must be presented during check-in.
  3. Membership Rewards Holidays are non-refundable and non-transferable and shall not be resold or used for promotional or commercial purposes. Cancellation by Cardmembers of redeemed Membership Rewards Holidays is not permitted. Requests by Cardmembers for any change in itinerary after bookings are confirmed in respect of Membership Rewards Holidays are subject to availability and participating airlines’ and/or hotel’s terms and fees.
  4. Unless expressly stated otherwise in promotional materials specifically applicable to the Membership Rewards Holidays,
    1. air tickets are in economy class only and
    2. Membership Rewards Holidays do not include airport to hotel or hotel to airport transfers or car hire
  5. Membership Rewards Holidays cannot be redeemed in part i.e. in respect of air ticket(s) and hotel accommodation packages, the components of air ticket(s) and hotel accommodation are not redeemable separately.
  6. Membership Rewards Holidays may be redeemed by Basic Cardmembers, as American Express may determine in its absolute discretion, wholly by Points or by a combination of Points and monetary payment to be charged to the Cardmember’s Card. The number of Points required for redeeming Membership Rewards Holidays is subject to change. Points shall be deducted and the Cardmember’s Card account will be charged, as the case may be, when the booking for the Membership Rewards Holiday is confirmed. Where American Express gives Cardmembers the choice of redeeming Membership rewards Holidays wholly by Points or by a combination of Points and monetary payment, such choice once exercised, at the time the booking for the Membership Rewards Holiday is confirmed, cannot be reversed.
  7. Bookings for Membership Rewards holidays should be made at least seven (7) days prior to travel by calling the Customer Services Hotline. It is the Cardmember’s responsibility to apply for any necessary visa(s) fir relevant destination(s) in a timely manner – see 8.
  8. The Cardmember is solely responsible for
    1. any air ticket taxes (such as airport and departure taxes), levies, airport transfer fees, airline and/or hotel surcharge(s), hotel bed/room tax, which will be advised by Amex prior to the confirmed booking for Membership Rewards Holidays
    2. insurance and
    3. application for and securing of all necessary visa(s) for relevant destination(s) and related fees. Air ticket taxes, levies, airport transfer fees, airline and hotel surcharge(s) and hotel bed/room tax shall be charged against the Cardmember’s Card account when the booking is confirmed.
  9. Membership Rewards Holidays generally will not qualify for airline frequent flyer or hotel frequent guest points.
  10. Participation by airlines or hotels in Membership Rewards Holidays is subject to change without notice. American Express reserves the right to make changes accordingly to Membership Rewards Holidays.
  11. Amex assumes no responsibility for the actions of any participating airline or hotels.

Points Purchase

  1. Cardmember may purchase up to a maximum of 20,000 points per redemption. Points may be purchased in multiples of 1,000. Purchase must be accompanied by redemption of a Reward in this Programme.
  2. The cost of any Points purchased will be billed directly to the Cardmember's Card Account and will appear on his/her Statement following the redemption.

Programme Account

  1. If the Card Account or any Linked Account is not in good standing (overdue or in collection), the Cardmember's enrolment in the Programme may be cancelled or Points accrued in the Programme Account may be forfeited. A Cardmember's enrolment in the Programme may also be cancelled or Points accrued may be forfeited due to the Cardmember's failure to adhere to the Terms and Conditions governing the Card Account or the Programme.
  2. If a Cardmember cancels all Basic Cards, or for any reason Amex cancels any Linked Account(s), any Points accrued in the Programme Account will be at the discretion of American Express be suspended and will not be capable  of conversion or redemption. Such Points accrued in the Cardmember's Programme Account will be forfeited even when the Cardmember reinstates any Card account(s), or if American Express reinstates the Linked Account(s) at any period of time after cancellation.
  3. If an eligible Cardmember who has more than one Basic Card account, voluntarily cancels any such Card account and at least one Basic Card account remains, any Points accrued in the Programme as a result of charges billed to the cancelled Card may be transferred to any remaining Card account in his or her name.
  4. If the American Express Card Account is terminated and for any reason
    1. the Cardmember has no other American Express card account which is valid and in good standing at that time, Program Account(s) which are related to the cancelled Card Account(s) shall be terminated at the same time and any points accrued in the Program Account will be forfeited on the date of account termination.
    2. If a Cardmember instructs to cancel his/her enrollment in the Program, all points accrued in the Program Account which have not been redeemed or converted in accordance with the Terms and Conditions of the Program shall, after 30 days from the time we receive instructions, be forfeited.

General

  1. American Express assumes no responsibility for any loss of whatever nature resulting from the redemption of either Frequent Traveller or Non-Frequent Traveller Rewards.
  2. American Express can suspend or terminate the Programme at any time it deems necessary. In such a case, American Express shall give advance written notice to Basic Cardmembers.
  3. American Express reserves the right to change the Programme Terms and Conditions and these Terms and Conditions at any time.
  4. American Express reserves the right to engage third party service providers in administering the Membership Rewards Programme.
  5. Fraud and abuse relating to the earning of Points in the Programme or redemption of rewards including transfer of Points to participating Frequent Customer Programmes, may result in the forfeiture of accrued Points as well as cancellation of a Cardmember's Programme Account.
  6. All questions or disputes regarding eligibility for the Programme or the eligibility of Points for accrual or redemption of rewards including transfer of Points to a participating Frequent Customer Programme, will be resolved by American Express at its sole discretion.
  7. The Programme Account is not transferable.
  8. American Express' failure to enforce a particular Term or Condition does not constitute a waiver of that Term or Condition by American Express.
  9. These Terms and Conditions are to be read in conjunction with your Card terms and conditions.

  1. These Terms and Conditions are governed by Singapore Law.
