First things first
If you haven’t already activated your American Express® Card, you can do so online now. Also, register to manage your account with Online Services, it's secure, easy and completely free.
Your photo is an essential part of the TrueEarnings® Card and your Card cannot be issued without it. If Costco has your photo on file, you will automatically receive your Card and PIN ten working days after you’re approved. If you're unsure whether Costco has an available photo, contact Costco on 01923 830699. If no photo is received within sixty days from your date of approval, American Express will cancel your TrueEarnings Card and terminate your account. This is in accordance with the 'Ending your Agreement' section of the credit agreement.
If you have applied for any Supplementary Cards, you'll receive these, once approved, within the next ten working days provided they have a photo on file. If no photo is received within sixty days, from the date of approval, American Express will cancel the Supplementary Card(s).
For security reasons, we'll send your American Express PIN separately from your Card. When you receive it, follow the directions on the back of the letter. It's easy to change your PIN to something more memorable at any of the 30,000 UK LINK cash machines.
Find your nearest cash machine
If you do not have a photo on file, you will receive your PIN but will not receive your Card until you have your photo taken.
Forgotten your PIN
No problem. Click below to view your PIN online – just answer some security questions and we’ll reveal your PIN. If you’re still having difficulties, call the Customer Services number on the back of your Card.
Incorrectly entered your PIN?
If you’ve entered your PIN incorrectly too many times, it will become locked and you’ll need to use a cash machine to unlock the PIN. At the cash machine select the ‘PIN Services’ option. If you don't know your PIN to unlock it at the cash machine, you can view it easily online.
Card number and security code
Your Card number is embossed across the front of your Card. For your additional security, your Card also has a 4-digit security code printed on the front. It's above the Card number, towards the right, and printed flat (unlike the Card number). You may be asked for this number during phone and online transactions.
When you first interact with American Express on the phone, during Activation, or when registering for Online Services, you will be asked to create a Customer Password. American Express uses the Customer Password to protect the accounts of our Cardmembers. Customer Password is always a 4-digit number, and you should select a Customer Password that will be easy for you to remember. You can choose your Customer Password from one of four types: a memorable date, mother’s birthday, father’s birthday or a numeric passcode. You will be asked for this Customer Password during select transactions when calling American Express or transacting on americanexpress.com. As a reminder, your Customer Password is not the password associated with your User ID when you log in to americanexpress.com.
Don’t you love it when you get something extra? In addition to the usual Chip & PIN, your new Card now contains clever Contactless technology1, making it quicker and easier to purchase items under £20.
Faster and more convenient than cash
Just touch your Contactless Card against a Contactless reader. No need to enter your PIN. Pay in seconds for those smaller everyday purchases like sandwiches, coffee or travel.
Much more rewarding
Using your Card instead of cash or debit means you can pick up TrueEarnings cashback rewards, plus you’ll have an itemised record of your spending.
Just as secure as your regular transactions
Our Contactless technology is just as safe and secure as Chip & PIN. Every transaction is protected by the usual fraud protection guarantee offered by American Express. As an additional security measure we may occasionally ask you to enter your PIN code.
How does Contactless work?
You can use your Card at any of our ever-growing number of American Express Contactless retailers. Touch your Card against the Contactless reader. The reader should confirm with a light, beep or indicator that your Card has been read.
You must complete one traditional Chip & PIN transaction to initiate your new Card first, and then you’re free to enjoy Contactless.
