Guide to your American Express® Platinum Card® statement
Welcome inside your guide
We've put this guide together to help you find any information you need about your Platinum Card statement, at the click of a mouse.
What is a Charge Card?
How a Charge Card can supercharge your life
The American Express Platinum Card is a Charge Card, not a Credit Card. This means
that we don’t put an inflexible, fixed credit limit on your Card, as long as you
pay your balance in full each month. Instead, the amount you can spend at any one
time is based on things like your previous spend, your repayment history with us,
your credit history and your financial resources.
In the early days, we need to get to know you and your spending patterns. So the amount you can have outstanding at any one time may start out a little lower than you can actually afford. As we learn how you like to run and manage your Card, we’ll quickly be able to adjust how much you can spend on it.
Need to talk to us about your Charge Card spending limits while travelling or if you’re planning a big purchase? Just call us on the number on the back of your Platinum Card.
Your Charge Card statement clearly shows you the figure, and the date by which you need to pay it.
How to make your payments
Choose the best way to pay
There are a number of ways you can settle your Card balance each month. The easiest
is by Direct Debit (set one up now).
If you prefer, you can log in to Online Services from your PC or mobile and pay online, as well as view your transactions, and manage your account whenever you like (if you haven’t already done so, register now).
Paying by bank giro is another option. Please write your account number on the front of your cheque and take it with your completed Payment Slip to your bank. Allow four working days for receipt of payment.
And if you would like to pay by cheque you can do so by writing your account number on the front of your cheque and making it payable to American Express Services Europe Limited. Please send your cheque to:
American Express Services Europe Ltd., Royal Avenue, Widnes, WA88 1AE
Please do not send any correspondence with your payments.
Set up a Direct Debit
Pay the easy way
Want to set up a Direct Debit now? Simply log in to Online Services and download the Direct Debit form, then
post it back to us at:
American Express Services Europe Ltd, FREEPOST, PO Box 79, Brighton, BN1 1YZ
Or, you can call us using the number on the back of your Card, and we'll set up your Direct Debit with you over the phone. Once it’s set up, you’ll see it clearly marked on your statement. Direct Debits can take a few weeks to activate, so please view your statement regularly. Until your Direct Debit is up and running, please continue paying by your usual method.

How we calculate your Membership Rewards®
The best part of your statement
You can see exactly how we’ve worked out your Membership Rewards points by looking
at the boxes on the top. You’ll also notice that the period your statement shows
for the Membership Rewards points you have earned, differs from the period of the
statement itself, as it takes time for this to show on the paper or PDF version
of your statement.
To see the latest Membership Rewards points each of your recent charges has generated, log in to your Online Account, click here. You can also see your year-to-date total here.
Nearly every £1 you put on your Card qualifies for Membership Rewards points, so the more you charge your Card, the more you earn. Use it for everyday purchases – like a trip to the supermarket or filling up your car, or for larger expenses like travel, and you’ll earn Membership Rewards even faster.
For a selection of rewards and treats, turn to the exclusive Cardmember offers at the end of your statement each month or visit American Express Selects
For tips about how to maximise your points visit the Welcome Centre.
