American Express Travel Insurance - Pre-existing Medical conditions

Pre-existing medical conditions

American Express provides cover for many pre-existing medical conditions, subject to medical screening. Medical screening can be completed online as part of the quote process, or by calling us directly on 0800 028 7573 to speak to one of our insurance specialists.

What is a pre-existing medical condition?

A pre-existing medical condition is defined as:

  • Any past or current medical condition that has resulted in symptoms or for which any form of treatment or prescribed medication, medical consultation, investigation or follow-up/check-up has been required or received during the 2 years prior to the commencement of cover under this policy.
  • Any cardiovascular or circulatory condition (e.g. heart condition, hypertension, blood clots, raised cholesterol, stroke, aneurysm) that has occurred at any time prior to the commencement of cover under this policy.
  • Any symptoms for which you are awaiting investigation/consultation, or are awaiting results of investigations, where the underlying cause has not been established.

Online Medical Screening

You will be prompted at step 4 of the quote process, ‘Declaration’ to answer a series of questions that will determine if medical screening is necessary. If you answer yes to one or more of the questions, you will be taken through a simple medical screening process. We will then determine if we can provide cover. You may be subject to an additional premium to cover a pre-existing medical condition. If we are unable to provide cover for your medical condition, we will still cover you for events that are not related to your medical condition. If you have further questions, or wish to speak to an insurance specialist, please call us directly on 0800 028 7573. If you have already completed an online quote, please reference your quote number to help us find your details quicker.
