Due to the unique risks associated with participation in winter spots activities, many Ski and Snowboard operators require individuals and families to purchase specialist winter sports travel insurance.
American Express Winter Sports Travel Insurance not only provides cover for you and your winter sports equipment, but cover for piste closure, unused ski packs and avalanche benefits too. Leaving you to sashay the slopes in style, knowing we're expecting the unexpected and have you covered.
This option is for policyholders who require cover for both on and off piste skiing, ski equipment and piste closure when they are taking part in winter sports. This option is available on all policies, but is not available to policyholders aged 70 or over, taking part in winter sports for the first time.

Off-piste is defined as any skiing or snowboarding which does not take place on any normally marked public open pistes

Benefit Cover
- Winter Sports Option
Cover is applicable for the following durations:
- Single Trip : 17 days per period of insurance
- Annual Essential : 17 days during the policy year
- Annual Select : 17 days during the policy year
- Annual Prestige : up to 31 days in total per trip, and no more than 120 days in total during the policy year
- Gap Cover : one third of the total policy duration

- Piste closure to £200/£20 per day (£750/£50 per day for Prestige)
If you cannot ski at your pre-booked resort for more than 24 consecutive hours, because of a lack of snow causing a total closure of the lift system, we will pay you a cash benefit if no alternative skiing is available. If alternative skiing is available we will pay for reasonable transportation costs and lift pass charges which you have to pay to travel to and from a similar ski resort or area to ski.
- Avalanche benefit to £150/£30 per day
Additional accommodation and travel expenses reasonably incurred following cancellation of scheduled public transport caused by avalanches or landslides.

We will cover your Winter Sports Equipment against loss, theft or damage occurring during your trip.

- Delay of Equipment over 12 hrs to £300/£20 per day (£525/£35 per day for Prestige)
- Unused ski pack charges to £350
