How do I pay in store using my iPhone?

To make a payment using Apple Pay, hold your locked device up to the contactless payment terminal. Your device will prompt you to perform Touch ID, which is done by placing your finger on the home button. When the transaction is successful, the word ‘Done’ and a tick appear on your screen. You'll also hear a beep from your device.

If Touch ID doesn’t work, or you do not have it enabled, you will need to enter your device Passcode.

In busy situations, you can prepare your iPhone to make a payment before you reach the payment terminal. To do this, open Wallet and use Touch ID to ready the iPhone. Apple Pay will remain active for 60 seconds, allowing you time to complete your transaction.

How do I pay in store with an Apple Watch?

Double click the side button on your Apple Watch, select your American Express® Card and hold the watch face near the contactless reader. A brief vibration and a beep will indicate your payment is successful.

How do I pay in apps and on the web?

Whilst shopping on your device, look for the ‘Apple Pay’ icon during checkout. Simply tap the icon and review your payment information and contact details, then use Touch ID to complete your purchase.

On Mac in Safari, choose Apple Pay then complete the purchase on your iPhone or Apple Watch.

When the transaction is successful, the word ‘Done’ and a tick appear on your screen.

How can I change my default Card?

To ensure you’re receiving the many benefits of your American Express Card, you’ll need to ensure it is your default Card in Apple Pay. The first Card you load to Apple Pay will automatically become your default Card. If you wish to change your default Card, simply open Apple Wallet then tap and hold the Card you wish to set as the default. Drag the Card to the front of the stack and release. You'll receive a notification confirming your new default Card setting.

Can I also access my American Express Account on my iPhone?

You can access your Account details, special offers and more using the Amex Mobile App. It lets you save offers to your Card with a single tap, access a detailed transaction history and pay off transactions using your Membership Rewards points1.
