What is an Additional Card?

An Additional Card, also known as a Supplementary Card, lets you share the benefits and convenience of your American Express Card with family or friends. With just one Account, Additional Cards can be used in different locations at the same time. Plus, if you are enrolled in a rewards program, you’ll earn points whenever Additional Card Members use their Card.

Can I apply for any American Express® Card to be my Additional Card?

For most American Express accounts, you can only apply for the same Additional Card as your basic Card account (excluding the Platinum Card). For example, if you hold The Explorer Credit Card, you can only apply for The Explorer Credit Card Additional Cards.

You can check the balance of Additional Cards anytime via your online Account, your monthly statement, or by calling the number on the back of your Card. Spend made by Additional Card Members will be clearly stated on your statement and online Account.

All points earned from spend made by Additional Card Members will be directly credited to the Account of the basic Card Member (provided you are enrolled in a Membership Rewards, Qantas or Velocity rewards program). Additional Card Members will earn points at the same rate as the basic Card Member.

The Additional Card will be delivered to the basic Card Member via post, within 3-5 business days of the application being approved. Once received, Additional Card Members should activate their Card by creating their own unique login at americanexpress.com.au/register and register for Online Services to be able to manage their Card (online or via the Amex App) and access Amex Offers.
