What is Amex Express Checkout?

Amex Express Checkout is the fast, secure way to complete purchases with participating online retailers – just look for the "Amex Express Checkout" button when checking out. With Amex Express Checkout you spend more of your time online shopping and less time filling out the checkout forms.

How does it work?

You can create an Amex Express Checkout account with your Bank issued American Express Card. You can then register as many as 10 cards and 10 shipping addresses in one account. Once you have an account, lookout for the Amex Express Checkout button when making a purchase at participating online retailers. Simply click on the button during checkout and login with your email address and password. You can then choose one of your registered cards and preferred shipping address to complete the purchase. Amex Express Checkout will auto-fill payment and shipping details into the checkout page - saving you time. You’ll be returned to the merchant’s website to complete the order.

Who can use the Bank issued option?

American Express Cards issued by American Express Australia Limited or by the following licensed network partners can create an Amex Express Checkout account:

  • National Australia Bank Limited;
  • Westpac Banking Corporation;
  • Australia and New Zealand Banking Group Limited (ANZ);
  • Commonwealth Bank of Australia;

The following Cards are unable to create an Amex Express Checkout account: Prepaid, International Currency Cards, Corporate Purchasing Cards, Business Travel Accounts, Small Business cards issued for specific merchants, and David Jones Storecards.

How do I use Amex Express Checkout to make a purchase?

  • Click on the Amex Express Checkout button when you are completing a purchase with participating online retailers.
  • "Log in or sign up" - and you’ll be taken to a secure account management page that displays your payment and shipping details.
  • You’ll then be asked to select the card and shipping address you want to use.
  • Amex Express Checkout will then auto-fill payment and account information into the merchant’s online or mobile checkout page so you don’t have to.
  • You’ll have the opportunity to review the payment and account information before completing the purchase.

Where can I use Amex Express Checkout?

You can use Amex Express Checkout wherever there’s an Amex Express Checkout button on a merchant’s checkout page. Details of where you can use Amex Express Checkout is coming soon.

Do I have to sign up for Amex Express Checkout before using it?

Yes. You can sign up here, or by clicking the Amex Express Checkout button during checkout at participating online retailers. Once you have completed the sign up process, Amex Express Checkout will remember your details for next time.

Does it cost anything to use Amex Express Checkout?

No, Amex Express Checkout is without charge.

What if my Card details change (for example if my Card is replaced or updated) – do I need to update my Amex Express Checkout account?

Yes, you’ll need to update your Amex Express Checkout account by adding the replacement Card details and removing the old one. During the update, you’ll need to provide the 3-4 digit printed Card security code, Card identification code or Card verification value (PCSC, CID or CVV) on the replacement Card for security purposes.

What if I forget my password or email address?

Don’t worry if you forget your password. Just click the "Forgot Password" link on the login page. You’ll then be taken to a page that lets you enter the email address associated with your Amex Express Checkout account and can follow the simple instructions to reset your password.

What if I forget which email address I signed up with?

This isn’t a problem either. Click the "Forgot Details" link on the login page. You’ll then be taken to a page that lets you recall your email address. Follow the simple instructions and you’ll be asked to reset your password.

Why do I have to enter my 3 or 4-digit Printed Card Security Code, Card Identification Number or Card Verification Value (PCSC, CID or CVV) when I add or edit Card information?

For security reasons, asking you to enter the 3 or 4-digit PCSC, Card ID or CVV when you add a card to your account for the first time and when you make changes to your card or billing details is one way we help keep your information secure.

Is Amex Express Checkout secure?

Yes. Security and service are first and foremost for American Express. Amex Express Checkout utilizes industry-leading security measures to keep your Card number and personal information safe and secure. Additionally, Amex Express Checkout uses multi-factor authentication to reduce the risk of fraudulent transactions. Your American Express Card is backed by our industry leading service, protections and benefits.

Please note: When you use Amex Express Checkout on a desktop or mobile device, American Express does not operate or control the wired or wireless networks used to access Amex Express Checkout. Service provider protocols may vary. Your internet or wireless service provider can give you more information about their privacy and security practices. You should not share your account details, PIN or passwords with others.

Do you store my personal and Credit Card information?

Yes. Storing your information securely is part of how we make checkout so fast and easy. When you select a payment card and shipping address for an online purchase, we pass this information on to the merchant to process and complete that transaction. We do not pass your information to anyone else and always use your information in accordance with our Online Privacy Statement.

Do you give my personal and credit card information to the merchant?

Yes. We give your information to the merchant so that they can process payment for your purchase. Once your information is transferred to the merchant, we are not responsible for how the merchant uses that information and you should always check the merchant’s privacy policy before purchasing with them. We will always use your information in accordance with our Online Privacy Statement.

How will an Amex Express Checkout transaction appear on my American Express statement?

When you use Amex Express Checkout, your transaction will appear on your card statement provided by your card issuer just like any other transaction made at that merchant. Express Checkout does not process your payment; it simply provides your card details to the merchant who processes it in the usual way.

How can I deactivate/cancel my Amex Express Checkout account?

To deactivate your Amex Express Checkout account, go to the "My Profile" page of your Amex Express Checkout account using the Account dropdown menu, and select "Delete Account" and follow the prompts.

Will I receive confirmation that my order was processed?

Once you’ve completed the Amex Express Checkout steps, you’ll be returned to the merchant’s website to complete the order. Your purchase will be processed by the merchant in the usual way and your confirmation will follow the merchant’s standard checkout confirmation process.

What happens if I want to return something I purchased using Amex Express Checkout?

Order returns will follow the same procedures as any standard online transaction at that merchant. You should refer to the merchant’s terms and conditions and return policies for further information.

What should I do if someone has accessed or used my Amex Express Checkout without my permission?

If you suspect your Amex Express Checkout account has been used for fraudulent activity, or unauthorised charges appear on your card statement, contact your card’s issuer and reset your Amex Express Checkout password immediately.

Do any terms and conditions apply?

Yes, your use of Amex Express Checkout is subject to and governed by the Amex Express Checkout Terms of Service. You should check these from time to time.
