Why has a merchant charged me $1 (e.g. Uber)?

This is simply one of the security measures that some merchants use to protect their customers.

Merchants may contact us to confirm that your Card is valid and not lost or stolen. This is achieved by processing a $1 authorisation charge. However, please be assured that Merchants do not actually proceed with the charge, and it will not appear as a charge on your statement.
