Amex Express Checkout is the fast, secure way to complete purchases with participating online retailers – just look for the "Amex Express Checkout" button when checking out. How does it work?

Look out for the Amex Express Checkout button when making a purchase at participating online retailers. Simply click on the button during checkout and login with your existing User ID and Password. You can then choose your Card and Amex Express Checkout will auto-fill payment and account information into the online or mobile checkout page. You'll then be returned to the merchant's website to complete your order. No separate account, password or sign up is required.

Who can use Amex Express Checkout? Which Cards work with it? Which Cards work with it?

Amex Express Checkout is available to all Card Members with an User ID and Password, and have an eligible Consumer or Small Business Card that is current and in good standing.

Prepaid, Corporate, Small Business Cards issued for specific merchants, and David Jones Storecards are not eligible.

How do I use Amex Express Checkout to make a purchase?

  • Click on the Amex Express Checkout button when you are completing a purchase with participating online retailers.
  • Select the " User ID" option and enter your User ID and Password.
  • Then select your eligible American Express Card and enter your Card ID (CID) or one-time code. The Card ID (CID) is the four-digit, non-embossed number that is printed above your Card number on the front of your Card.
  • Amex Express Checkout will then auto-fill payment and account information into the merchant's online or mobile checkout page so you don't have to.
  • You'll have the opportunity to review the payment and account information before completing the purchase.

Where can I use Amex Express Checkout?

You can use Amex Express Checkout wherever there’s an Amex Express Checkout button on a merchant’s checkout page. Details of where you can use Amex Express Checkout is coming soon.

Do I have to sign up for Amex Express Checkout before using it?

No. Your existing User ID and Password is all you need.

What if I don’t have an User ID and Password?

If you don't have an User ID and Password, and you have an eligible Card issued by American Express, you can create an account here, and then click on 'New Registration'.

Does it cost anything to use Amex Express Checkout?

No, Amex Express Checkout is without charge.

What if my Card details change (for example if my Card is replaced or updated) – do I need to update my Amex Express Checkout account?

No. Only eligible Cards will be displayed when you enter your User ID and Password.

What if I forgot my Password or User ID?

Click the "Forgot User ID or Password" link on the Amex Express Checkout login page, or on to retrieve your User ID and reset your Password.

Why do I have to enter my 4-digit Card Identification Number (CID)?

For security reasons, asking you to enter the 4-digit Card ID when you use Amex Express Checkout is one way we help keep your information secure. The Card ID (CID) is the four-digit, non-embossed number that is printed above your Card number on the front of your Card.

We may also require a one-time code that can be received via email or SMS. If prompted, please enter the code into the appropriate field to continue using Amex Express Checkout. Please note: A working Internet and/or data connection is required to receive a one-time code.

Is Amex Express Checkout secure?

Yes. Security and service are first and foremost for American Express. Amex Express Checkout utilizes industry-leading security measures to keep your Card number and personal information safe and secure. Additionally, Amex Express Checkout uses multi-factor authentication to reduce the risk of fraudulent transactions. Your American Express Card is backed by our industry leading service, protections and benefits.

Please note: When you use Amex Express Checkout on a desktop or mobile device, American Express does not operate or control the wired or wireless networks used to access Amex Express Checkout. Service provider protocols may vary. Your internet or wireless service provider can give you more information about their privacy and security practices. You should not share your account details, PIN or passwords with others.

Will the online retailer see my American Express User ID or Password?

No. We will never share your User ID or Password with a retailer.

Do you give my personal and Credit Card information to the merchant?

Yes. We give your information to the merchant so that they can process payment for your purchase. Once your information is transferred to the merchant, we are not responsible for how the merchant uses that information and you should always check the merchant's privacy policy before purchasing with them. We will always use your information in accordance with our Online Privacy Statement.

How will an Amex Express Checkout transaction appear on my American Express statement?

When you use Amex Express Checkout, your transaction will appear on your card statement provided by your card issuer just like any other transaction made at that merchant. Express Checkout does not process your payment; it simply provides your card details to the merchant who processes it in the usual way.

How can I deactivate/cancel my Amex Express Checkout account?

If using your User ID and Password with Amex Express Checkout, there is no separate account to create or cancel.

Will I receive confirmation that my order was processed?

Once you've completed the Amex Express Checkout steps, you'll be returned to the merchant's website to complete the order. Your purchase will be processed by the merchant in the usual way and your confirmation will follow the merchant’s standard checkout confirmation process.

What happens if I want to return something I purchased using Amex Express Checkout?

Order returns will follow the same procedures as any standard online transaction at that merchant. You should refer to the merchant’s terms and conditions and return policies for further information.

My account is locked. How can I unlock it?

To prevent unauthorised access to your account, we will lock your online account if you enter an incorrect user name, password, CID, or one-time access code too many times. You can unlock your account by calling the number on the back of your Card for assistance.

Do any terms and conditions apply?

Yes, your use of Amex Express Checkout is subject to and governed by the Amex Express Checkout Terms of Service. You should check these from time to time.

I have a question or issue that was not addressed in the FAQ. What should I do?

If you have a question that we didn't answer, American Express Card Members with Cards issued by American Express should call us using the number on the back of their Card.
