An Additional Card is a Supplementary Card. Additional or Supplementary Cardmembers must be at least 13 years old. Additional Cardmembers can use your account, subject to the terms of your Cardmember Agreement.
An Additional Cardmember can enjoy some of the benefits and convenience of your American Express Cardmembership. You, the Basic Cardmember, will remain responsible for all purchases and charges made on both your Card and the Additional Cardmember’s Card.
Yes, the Additional Cardmember can use the Amex App with their own log-in. The Amex App can be a great tool for Additional Cardmembers to track their spending. Data and other fees may apply.
The Additional Cardmember will receive the same Card as you (with the exception of The Platinum Card®, American Express® Aeroplan®* Reserve Card and American Express® Aeroplan®* Card, which have fee and no fee options). For example, if you hold an American Express Cobalt® Card, the Additional Cardmember will also hold an American Express Cobalt® Card.
Yes, you can add up to 9 Additional Cardmembers to your account. Other terms and annual fees may apply based on the type of Card.
You will be held responsible for all purchases charged on both your Card and the Additional Cardmember’s Card. Please refer to your billing statement or Cardmember Agreement for more information.
Yes, charges on each Additional Card are itemized on your billing statements, making it easy to track expenses. You also can check the balance of the Additional Card anytime via your Online Services account (within the Statements & Activity tab), on your billing statement or by calling the number on the back of your Card.
Yes, you can check the balance of the Additional Card anytime via your Online Services account (within the Statements & Activity tab), within your monthly statement, or by calling the number on the back of your Card. Charges made by each Additional Card are itemized on your monthly statements for easy expense tracking.
For Charge Cards, each Additional Card on your account can be assigned an individual spending limit. You can change the set spending amount at any given time based on your needs. Full terms of the Additional Card Spending Program can be found here.
Yes, eligible purchases made on the Additional Card are considered qualifying purchases and can help you earn rewards.
No, each Card has its own account number, so if one is lost or stolen, you only need to replace that Card.
Just like your Card, you can temporarily freeze any Additional Cards should they be lost or misplaced. This will help prevent them from being used for new purchases.

- You may select a spending amount up to which a Supplementary Cardmember will be able to make charges to their Supplementary Card during each billing period. This spending amount is not affected by payments or credits made by or on behalf of the Supplementary Cardmember during a billing period. The spending amount will automatically reset at the beginning of each new billing period. It is your responsibility to ensure each Supplementary Cardmember is made aware of any spending amount that applies to their account as well as the date on which the spending amount resets each month. You can select a different spending amount for each Supplementary Cardmember.

Your business may be covered for eligible unauthorized charges made by your employees on your Card Account if you terminate the employee and cancel their supplementary Card within 2 business days. Employee Card Misuse Protection4 is created specifically for business owners and provides up to $100,000 of coverage per Cardmember if an employee misuses their Supplementary Card.
