Plan It™ is a feature on your American Express® Card which allows you to pay your balance over time through equal monthly payments, tailored to fit your needs. Plan It provides another way to pay your balance so you can buy now, and pay later with flexibility and control.

Frequently Asked Questions

Installment plan balances that are not yet paid will reduce your available credit. As you pay off your monthly installments, the amount paid off is added back to your available credit limit. To see your available credit, view your latest monthly billing statement or visit your online services account.

If you are eligible, you can create an installment plan between the date your billing statement is generated and your payment due date. If your account is paid by preauthorized debit, you can create an installment plan between the date your billing statement is generated and two days before your payment due date.

When you participate in the installment program, you will be charged a fee instead of interest. The monthly fee will be displayed when making your selections to create a new plan. Terms and Conditions

1. When you create an installment plan, you will be charged a monthly installment fee. The monthly installment fee percentage will be disclosed to you during plan creation. Please see the Plan It (American Express Installment Program) section in your Cardmember Agreement or the Program Terms and Conditions for more details. Plan It is currently not available in Quebec, Nova Scotia, PEI or Nunavut.

2. Your ability to create each new installment plan will depend on an assessment of eligiblity made at the time you seek to create an installment plan. In order to be eligible, you must have new purchases billed to your current statement. Prior months' balances that have carried over are not eligible. Similarly, balances related to funds advances and balances at special rates of interest will also not be eligible unless we make a special offer to you. We may also limit or otherwise restrict your ability to move balances to the installment program based on your account's available credit or for any other reason. Please see the Plan It (American Express Installment Program) section in your Cardmember Agreement or the Program Terms and Conditions for more details.

3. This is not a promotional or special rate offer. The fee charged is comparable to the interest you would have paid if you carried this balance on your account, without being in an installment plan.
