Whether your customers are consumers or other businesses, becoming an American Express Merchant is simple and has the potential to help grow your business. This section provides an overview of the steps required to set up your Account and welcome our Cardmembers through your door, over the phone, or online.

Account set up

•  You can sign up to become an American Express Merchant using our online application process or by contacting 1-877-255-4334 (Monday – Friday, 8am to 8pm EST) to speak with our Merchant Services New Accounts Division.

•  Next, you will be provided with an American Express Merchant ID and receive a Welcome Kit which includes Point of Purchase materials for you to display in your business. Place the POP in a visible area(s) to show our Cardmembers that you welcome them and their Card at your business.

If you already accept other Credit Cards, simply contact your bank terminal provider and supply them with your American Express Merchant ID to begin accepting our Cards.

If you do not have a bank terminal, American Express offers a variety of Point of Sale products. We can help you choose the one that best suits your business needs. Contact our Product Services Group at 1-800-528-0682 (Monday – Friday, 9am to 7:30pm EST) and quote your American Express Merchant ID.

Remember to place our complimentary Point of Purchase material in a visible area in-store and on your website to let our Cardmembers know that you welcome them at your business.
