Moving to Canada

The easiest way to retain your existing Cardmembership status in Canada is to apply for a new Card online. You may also apply by phone. Whatever option you choose, be sure to provide your existing account number when you apply, in addition to the other information listed on the right.

1. Select your preferred card from our All Cards page.
2. Click to apply online for your chosen card.
3. Complete the application with your existing Account number, new Canadian home
    address and home telephone number.
    Note: Since you are an existing American Express Cardmember and moving from another country
    to Canada, you can disregard the requirement on the application that you must have a Canadian
    credit file.
4. Once the application has been successfully submitted, we'll contact you within a week for
    identification documentation and any additional information.
5. Upon approval we will send you your new Card (we aim to have it to you within 2 weeks of receiving
    any required documents).
6. Please call the number on your old Card to transfer Membership Reward points, or if you wish to cancel     your old Card.

2. Please have your existing Account details and current personal information available.
3. We’ll contact you within a week for identification documentation and any additional information.
4. Upon approval we will send you your new Card (we aim to have it to you within 2 weeks of receiving
    any required documents).
5. Please call the number on your old Card to transfer Membership Reward points, or if you wish to cancel     your old Card.

Please note:

  Process takes 3-4 weeks.
  You may only apply for one Card in Canada, until you have established a Canadian credit history.
  If you have a Canadian credit file, it will be taken into account when processing your application.
  We may request documents for ID purposes and address verification.
  Membership Rewards® points can be transferred to your new Card if it is enrolled in the Membership Rewards
    program.Otherwise, please redeem your points before you cancel your existing Card.
  If you wish to keep your existing Card, you will continue to be billed any annual fees you are currently paying.
  The balance, if any, from your existing Card cannot be transferred over to the new Card, if approved.
  To be eligible for a new Card in Canada, your Consumer Card (including Small Business Cards, where applicable)
   must be issued by American Express. You must be the Basic Cardholder, and have held the Card for
   at least 3 months. Your Card Account must be open and in good standing at the time of application.
   Or if the Card was previously cancelled by you, it must have been cancelled within the last 3 months.
   Corporate Cardholders and Global Network Cardholders (whose cards were issued by Banks other than an American Express Bank)
   are not eligible through this Card application process.
