Earn points

The following change will take effect August 15, 2023. Earn 5x points on eligible eats and drinks up to $2,500 monthly, for a total of up to $30,000 annually. Earn 1x points thereafter. Calculation resets to zero on the 1st of each month.

• 5X the points on eligible eats & drinks purchases in Canada³
• 3X the points on eligible streaming subscriptions in Canada³
• 2X the points on eligible transit & gas purchases in Canada and eligible travel purchases³
• 1X the points on everything else³
• Earn 1 additional Membership Rewards point for every $1 you charge to your Cobalt Card on eligible hotel or car rental bookings made with American Express Travel at americanexpress.ca/travel⁴
• As an eligible Basic Cardmember, you⁹ can refer a friend and earn a referral bonus for each approved referral, up to a maximum annual referral bonus of 75,000 Membership Rewards points for approved referrals¹⁰

Mobile Device Insurance^15†

When you fully charge or finance the purchase price of an eligible mobile device to your American Express Cobalt^® Card, you can be covered for up to $1,000 per insured person, in the event of theft, loss or accidental damage, anywhere in the world. Coverage begins on the date the first transaction related to the purchase of your mobile device is charged to your Card, or on the 91st day following the date of purchase of your mobile device (in order to avoid overlap with the 90-day coverage available to you under your Purchase Protection^® Plan Certificate of Insurance), and continues for a maximum of 2 years from the date of purchase.^15†

Out of Province/Country Emergency Medical Insurance^15†

Can provide coverage of up to a maximum of $5,000,000 for eligible emergency medical expenses incurred by an insured person under age 65 while travelling outside your Canadian province or territory of residence for the first 15 consecutive days of a covered trip.

Flight Delay Insurance^15†

You can receive up to $500 in coverage (aggregate maximum with Baggage Delay Insurance) for necessary and reasonable accommodations, restaurant expenses and sundry items purchased within 48 hours when delayed or denied boarding for 4 hours or more and no alternate transportation is made available when you fully charge your airline ticket to your American Express Cobalt Card.

Baggage Delay Insurance^15†

You can receive up to $500 in coverage (aggregate maximum with Flight Delay Insurance), for reasonable and necessary emergency purchases for essential clothing and sundry items purchased within four days of arrival at your destination when your checked-in baggage on your outbound trip is delayed for 6 or more hours when you fully charge your airline ticket to your American Express Cobalt Card.

Hotel Burglary Insurance^15†

You can receive up to $500 in coverage against the loss of most personal items (excluding cash) if your accommodation is burglarized when you fully charge your accommodations to your American Express Cobalt Card.

Lost or Stolen Baggage Insurance^15†

You can be covered for loss or damage to your checked-in or carry-on baggage and personal effects while in transit for up to a maximum of $500 per trip for all insured person(s) combined when you fully charge your airline tickets to your American Express Cobalt Card.

$250,000 Travel Accident Insurance^16†

You can be covered up to $250,000 of Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance when you fully charge your common carrier (plane, train, ship or bus) tickets to your American Express Cobalt Card.

Car Rental Theft and Damage Insurance^17†

You can be covered for theft, loss and damage of your rental car with an MSRP of up to $85,000 for rentals of 48 days or less when you fully charge your rental to your American Express Cobalt Card. To take advantage of this protection, simply decline the Collision Damage Waiver (CDW), Loss Damage Waiver (LDW) or similar option offered by the car rental agency.

Buyer’s Assurance^® Protection Plan^22†

Purchase Protection^® Plan^15†

You can be insured for eligible items charged to your American Express Cobalt Card for 90 days from the date of purchase in the event of accidental physical damage or theft for up to $1,000 per occurrence (for all purchased items combined).

Emergency Card Replacement

If your Card or Additional Card gets lost or stolen, no worries. Simply call the number on the back of your Card and we’ll arrange to get you a replacement Card.
