Expansive insurance coverage
Your Card has your back at home or abroad with a range of insurances for travel and purchases. Review your insurance coverage.
You could be covered in the event of the theft, loss, and/or damage of your rental car with a Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price of up to $85,000 for rentals of 48 days or less. To use this protection, be sure to charge the full cost of your rental to your Card and decline the Collision Damage Waiver, Loss Damage Waiver, or similar option offered by the rental agency.
Coverage for when your flight is delayed or you are denied boarding for up to 4 hours or more and no alternate transportation is made available. When you charge your airline tickets to your Card, you could receive up to $500 (combined maximum with Baggage Delay Insurance) for necessary and reasonable accommodations, restaurant expenses, and essential items purchased within the period of the flight delay or denied boarding.
Coverage for when your checked baggage is delayed for 6 hours or more. When you charge your airline tickets to your Card, you could receive up to $500 (combined maximum with Flight Delay Insurance) for reasonable and necessary emergency purchases for essential clothing and other items within four days of arrival at your destination.
When you charge your airline tickets to your Card, you could be covered for up to $500 per trip for all insured person(s) combined if your checked or carry-on baggage and personal effects are lost or damaged while in transit.
When you charge your accommodations to your Card, you could receive up to $500 in coverage against the loss of most personal items (excluding cash) if your accommodation is broken into.
You can be covered up to $500,000 of Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance when you fully charge your common carrier (plane, train, ship or bus) tickets to your Marriott Bonvoy® American Express®* Card.
When you charge eligible items to your Card, you could be insured for 90 days from the date of purchase in the event of accidental physical damage or theft for up to $1,000 per occurrence (even if the occurrence involves more than one insured item).
This coverage could extend the manufacturer’s warranty up to one additional year when you charge the entire purchase price of an eligible new item to your Card.

Each year if, before the annual reset date based on your Card anniversary, you reach $30,000 in net purchases charged to your account, or after you stay 10 qualifying paid nights within one calendar year and combine these nights with 15 Elite Night Credits from your Card, you will earn Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite status in the Marriott Bonvoy program for a minimum of 1 year (unless you are already enrolled at that or a higher level). Account must be in good standing. On the annual reset date, the amount of annual net purchases resets to zero. If you did not apply for your Marriott Bonvoy® American Express®* Card with a pre-existing Marriott Bonvoy account number, American Express will automatically generate a new number for you. You can retrieve this number by calling American Express at the number on the back of your Card.
If at any time you need to find your Marriott Bonvoy number, you can view it by logging into your Marriott Bonvoy Account under your profile, under the Personal Info section. If you do not have access to your online account, you can look up your member number here and have it emailed to you.
If you were given a new Marriott Bonvoy account number from American Express, you must activate your online account in order to track and redeem your points, view your hotel stays, and more.
First, if you have a pre-existing Marriott Bonvoy account number, you can update the number American Express has on file by calling American Express at the number on the back of your Card.
Then, you must merge the number American Express currently has on file with your pre-existing account by submitting a merge request online or by contacting Marriott customer support, to ensure you only have one Marriott Bonvoy account number under your name. Please indicate the correct account number you'd like to use and verify all details are correct.

Each year starting after your first year of Cardmembership, 8-10 weeks after your annual reset date, you will earn an Annual Free Night Award redeemable within 1 year from issuing for an available single or double occupancy standard room at participating Marriott Bonvoy properties with a room redemption rate of up to 35,000 Points, inclusive of room rate and applicable taxes but exclusive of resort fee. Booking and stay of the Free Night Award must be completed within 1 year of the Award’s issuance. Account must be in good standing. Free Night Award Certificates are valid for one year from point of issue and expiration dates cannot be extended. You must redeem and stay by its expiration date. For example, if your Free Night Award expires on December 20, 2024, your check in date can be no later than December 20, 2024.
Your Free Night Award will be issued if your Marriott Bonvoy® American Express®* Card account is in good standing. Please allow up to 10 weeks from your Card anniversary date to receive the Free Night Award. If you still do not see your award, please call American Express at the number on the back of your Card to understand your eligibility.
The amount of Marriott Bonvoy Points needed to reserve a stay is based on availability, seasonality etc. We encourage Cardmembers to explore alternate dates, locations and properties to find award stays within the eligible range. You can also add up to 15,000 Marriott Bonvoy Points to a Free Night Award that you have earned to increase the range of eligible stays. Learn more here.
Once issued, you will see your Free Night Award when you log in to your Marriott Bonvoy online account under the Account Activity Page, or by clicking the down-arrow next to your name and clicking on Activity. Your Free Night Award(s) will show In the Earned Awards section just under the menu bar.
To use your Free Night Award, enter your desired destination and travel dates and put a checkmark in the 'Use points/Awards' box and then click 'find hotels'. Continue to select your hotel and room type (only one room can be booked per reservation when using a Free Night Award). On the 'Complete your booking' page, select Free Night Award. Learn more here.
To find your annual reset date, go to the Points Summary page at the end of your American Express billing statement, under Marriott Bonvoy Awards. If you haven't made any purchases in the statement month, this page may not be included in your statement. Please refer to previous statements with eligible purchases or call American Express at the number on the back of your Card.
Cardmembers will be enrolled in Gold Elite status for a minimum of 12-months from the time of the upgrade, if eligible. To maintain Gold status through spending $30,000 CAD, the spend requirement resets each year on your anniversary date.7
You will receive an Annual Free Night Award on each Card if eligible. You will receive a maximum of 15 Elite Night Credits per calendar year even if you have more than one Marriott Bonvoy Consumer or Small Business credit Card Account.
Regardless of your Elite status level, you can use the 15 Elite Night Credits your Card offers to work towards the next level of Elite status.
Marriott Bonvoy points earned through your Card will be credited to your Marriott Bonvoy account after the billing period in which the purchases are posted to your Card account. In the scenario that your billing period has ended and you still don't see your points after a few days, please call American Express at the number on the back of your Card.
To view your current points balance of Marriott Bonvoy points earned with your American Express Card during a particular billing period, please refer to the Membership Rewards tab of the American Express®* App.
To view your total redeemable balance of points that have transferred over to your Marriott Bonvoy account, please log in to your Marriott Bonvoy account.
If eligible, your Welcome Bonus will be deposited within 8-weeks after meeting the Welcome Offer eligibility requirements. Your Marriott Bonvoy points will then be credited to your Marriott Bonvoy account a few days after the billing period in which the purchases are posted to your Card account.
