How does a rewards Credit Card work?

With a rewards Credit Card, you can earn rewards points on all the eligible purchases you make on your Card. Membership Rewards is how Amex Card Members earn and redeem points from spending on their Essential Rewards Card. It’s a program that allows you to earn points on most of your Card spend (bills, groceries, dining out, entertainment, travel bookings) and redeem them for travel rewards by using your points with major Partner Programs across airlines, hotel and retail or with Amex Travel Online, as well as for Gift Cards or to pay with points when you shop at participating merchants.

How is the limit on the Amex Essential Rewards Card determined?

All American Express Credit Cards have a maximum Credit limit. Your highest limit will depend on your financial circumstances and the Credit Card you choose. When you apply for the Amex Essential Rewards Card, you’ll have the opportunity to indicate your preferred Credit Card limit and approval for your credit line will be subject to our approval criteria. You should ensure that you nominate a limit that’s in line with your current financial circumstances.
It’s also important to know that choosing a low limit during the application process will not change your chances of approval. If you don’t choose a limit, we’ll assign you one, based on your current financial circumstances.

Interest free days: You get up to 55 days to pay for your Card purchases.
Smartphone Front Screen Cover - If you accidentally break your phone screen, you can be reimbursed for the cost of the smartphone front screen repair up to $500 for two events a year. (A 10% excess applies to the claimed amount. Waiting periods may apply.)
