How is Plaza Premium and Priority Pass lounge access changing in 2027?
To ensure we continue to provide our cardmembers with elevated benefits, unlimited complimentary access to Plaza Premium9 and Priority Pass10 lounges with The Business Platinum Card® will transition to a spend-based model starting January 1, 2027.
Starting in 2026, when you spend $20,000 or more annually on eligible purchases, you unlock unlimited Plaza Premium9 and Priority Pass10 lounge access for the following year.
What happens if I spend less than $20,000 annually?
There are no changes to your lounge access through to the end of 2026. Starting in January 2026, we’ll begin tracking your annual spend to determine eligibility to unlock unlimited lounge access in 2027.
- If you spend less than $20,000, you’ll receive 6 visits each per calendar year to Plaza Premium9 and 6 visits each per calendar year to Priority Pass10 lounges, for a total of 12 visits.
- Supplementary cardmembers will receive 2 visits each to Plaza Premium9 and Priority Pass10 lounges per calendar year, for a total of 4 visits.
- Access to other lounges in the Global Lounge Collection4 remains unlimited.
If I don’t reach $20,000 spend in the preceding year, is there any way for me to unlock unlimited Plaza Premium and Priority Pass lounge access during the current year?
Yes - Your lounge access remains unchanged until January 1st, 2027.
Starting in January 2026, we’ll begin tracking your annual spend to determine eligibility to unlock unlimited lounge access in 2027.
If you don’t reach $20,000 in spend during 2026 you can unlock unlimited lounge visits to Plaza Premium9 and Priority Pass10 lounges by reaching $20,000 in eligible spend on your account within the calendar year. Once that spend level is reached, unlimited access will be active for the rest of that year and the following calendar year.
Are there other ways to qualify for unlimited lounge access?
At this point in time no, but regardless of spend you will continue to retain unlimited access to all the other lounges within AMEX's Global Lounge Collection4.
Choosing to use your card whenever you spend will help towards unlocking unlimited lounge access for 2027 and onwards. Whether it is buying gas, groceries, paying bills, or however you use your card, every purchase counts.
What counts towards the $20,000 annual spend requirement?
Eligible purchases made by the Basic Cardmember and any Supplementary Cardmembers on the Card Account will contribute to the Spend Requirement for that account.
Eligible spend is the amount of purchases, less credits, returns and adjustments. Interest charges, annual fees, other fees and cash equivalent transactions are not purchases and do not qualify for eligible spend.
When does my spend tracking period reset?
Spend resets every calendar year on January 1st.
How soon will my unlimited access take effect after reaching the spend requirement?
Unlimited Plaza Premium9 & Priority Pass10 Access will be processed within one week of the Eligible Business Platinum Card Account's satisfying the Spend Requirement in most instances but may take up to 12 weeks to become effective.
Once Unlimited Lounge Status is activated, it remains valid for the rest of the current year, and the entire following calendar year.
If I’m a new cardmember, will I get a full year to spend?
Spend is tracked on a calendar year level. For new Cardmembers, eligible spend tracking begins on your first transaction. For example, if you joined on March 1, 2026, spend from March - Dec 31, 2026 would count towards your Spend Requirement.
If I upgrade or downgrade to Business Platinum, will my existing spend-to-date be transferred to the spend tracking?
If you upgrade or downgrade from a different American Express Card to an Eligible Business Platinum Card, any spend made on the prior Card Account will not count towards your eligible spend.
How can I check my current spend progress toward the requirement?
Starting January 2026: You can call us to check your spend progress and Lounge benefit status.
What happens if I make a return?
In case of returns, the amount returned will be deducted from the spend-to-date towards the Lounge Benefit.
Will unused lounge visits roll over to the next year?
Unused lounge visits will not be carried over to the next year.
What happens if I exceed the 6 Plaza Premium and 6 Priority Pass lounge visits? Can I pay for additional visits?
If you have not unlocked unlimited lounge access, after your complimentary visits have been used, you may visit for a usage fee at the prevailing rate, which is subject to change without prior notice.

1. *$300 In Statement Credits - Earning up to $300 CAD in statement credits is based on the combined total value of current benefits available to eligible Business Platinum Cards: one (1) $200 CAD annual statement credit for a qualified travel booking charged to the Business Platinum Card and up to $100 CAD in statement credits every four (4) years for application or renewal fees for the NEXUS program. Earning up to $300 CAD in additional value does not include the Card’s annual fee.
2. The $200 CAD Annual Travel Credit can only be redeemed at time of booking through American Express Travel Online at americanexpress.ca/travel or by calling Platinum Card Travel Service. Travel booking must be charged to your Business Platinum Card. Account must be in good standing. If you choose to redeem the Travel Credit, it will be credited to your Card account within 2 business days. Basic Cardmember is entitled to one (1) Annual Travel Credit each year based on Card membership anniversary date, towards a single travel booking of $200 or more, and will appear on your billing statement as “Platinum Annual Travel Credit”. The Annual Travel Credit must be redeemed within the same anniversary year it is issued, and it cannot be carried forward to any subsequent year. If you cancel your travel booking after redeeming the Annual Travel Credit, you will not be able to redeem it again in the same year. You can only redeem one Travel Credit per booking.
3. Business Platinum Cardmembers will receive up to a $100 CAD statement credit when NEXUS application or renewal fees are charged to their account. Business Platinum Cardmembers are eligible to receive up to $100 CAD in statement credits every four (4) years for application or renewal fees for the NEXUS program when charged to an eligible Card. Cardmembers will receive statement credits for their total spend on NEXUS fees rounded down to the nearest dollar, up to a maximum of $100 CAD in cumulative statement credits, per account per four (4) year period, regardless of whether the NEXUS fees are charged on the Basic or Supplementary Card. American Express will not provide additional statement credits once the maximum of $100 CAD in cumulative statement credits have been issued for subsequent NEXUS application or renewal fees charged to the same eligible Card within the same four (4) year period even if the original application is rejected. For existing Cardmembers as of September 26, 2023, the first four (4) year period runs from September 26, 2023 until September 25, 2027. For new Cardmembers after September 26, 2023, the first four (4) year period runs from the initial Card anniversary date until the day before the fourth (4th) Card anniversary date. In either case, each subsequent four (4) year period follows the period that immediately preceded it. American Express has no control over the application and/or approval process for the NEXUS program and does not have access to any information provided to the government by the Cardmember or by the government to the Cardmember. Global Lounge Collection - Holders of the Business Platinum Card may access participating Canadian and International airport lounges (“Participating Lounges”) on a complimentary basis, upon presentation of the required entry documentation. 5. International Airline Program - The discount applies to the base airfare of the ticket(s). All ticket(s) are subject to government-imposed taxes, fees and airline-imposed fuel, security surcharges and mandatory non-refundable fees. 7. Toronto Pearson 15% Parking Discount – 15% discount off the cost of parking (including taxes) will be provided as a credit to your Business Platinum Card statement. The parking lot is subject to availability. Discount available at Express Park in Terminal 1 and Daily Park in Terminals 1 & 3. 15% discount cannot be used when reserving parking on Greater Toronto Airport Authority’s (GTAA) Parking Reservation system or in conjunction with any other offers or discounts offered by GTAA. 8. Toronto Pearson Priority Security Lane – American Express Basic and Supplementary Cardmembers with an eligible Card are entitled to access the Pearson Priority Lanes (“Priority Lanes”). The Priority Lanes are serviced by the Greater Toronto Airport Authority. Priority Lanes are located at select departure areas at Toronto’s Pearson International Airport in Terminals 1 & 3. Access to a Pearson Priority Lane is available to eligible Canadian Cardmembers and companions travelling on the same itinerary. The eligible Cardmember can request one-time-use QR Codes online by visiting go.amex/yyz. For assistance, please call the phone number on the back of your card. Access to the Priority Lanes is intended for the Basic and Supplementary Cardmember and a reasonable number of persons travelling with them on the same itinerary. 9. Plaza Premium Lounges - Business Platinum Cardmembers have complimentary access to Plaza Premium Lounges. Supplementary Gold Cards on Business Platinum accounts are not eligible for complimentary access. Business Platinum Cardmembers may bring in one (1) travel companion as a complimentary guest. Fees apply for additional guests. Guest must accompany the Business Platinum Cardmember. To access a Lounge, Business Platinum Cardmember and eligible guest(s) must show a valid, unexpired eligible Business Platinum Card, confirmed airline boarding pass for same-day travel and government-issued photo identification in the name of the Business Platinum Cardmember/guest(s). Effective Jan 1, 2027, Basic American Express® Business Platinum Cardmembers will be eligible for six (6) complimentary visits per calendar year to Plaza Premium Lounges. Eligible Supplementary Business Platinum Cardmembers will be eligible for two (2) complimentary visits per calendar year to Plaza Premium Lounges. A “visit” is defined as a single entry (per person) into a participating Plaza Premium Lounge, subject to the following entry requirements: To access a Lounge, Business Platinum Cardmember and eligible guest(s) must show a valid, unexpired eligible Business Platinum Card, confirmed airline boarding pass for same-day travel and government-issued photo identification in the name of the Business Platinum Cardmember/guest(s). To earn unlimited Plaza Premium Lounge access, the total eligible purchases on the eligible Business Platinum Card account must equal or exceed $20,000 each calendar year (the “Spend Requirement”). The Spend Requirement will be based on transaction date. Once effective, unlimited Plaza Premium Lounge access will be provided to all eligible Business Platinum Basic and Supplementary Cardmembers on the Account. With unlimited Plaza Premium Lounge access, Eligible Business Platinum Cardmembers may bring in one (1) travel companion as a complimentary guest. Supplementary Gold Cards on Business Platinum Accounts will not be eligible for the unlimited Plaza Premium Lounge access benefit. All entry requirements set forth in these Terms and Conditions will continue to apply with respect to unlimited Plaza Premium Lounge access.
Unlimited Plaza Premium Lounge access will be processed within one week of the eligible Business Platinum Card Account's satisfying the Spend Requirement in most instances but may take up to 12 weeks to become effective. Once effective, unlimited Plaza Premium Lounge access will be available for the remainder of the calendar year in which it became effective until December 31 of the next calendar year (for example, if unlimited Plaza Premium Lounge access becomes effective on May 1, 2027, it will remain effective until December 31, 2028). Eligible purchases made by any Supplementary Cardmembers on the eligible Platinum Card Account will contribute towards the Spend Requirement. Eligible spend is the purchases made at American Express merchants and charged to an eligible Card, less credits, returns and adjustments. Interest charges, annual fees, other fees and cash equivalent transactions are not purchases and do not qualify for eligible spend. If a Cardmember upgrades or downgrades from a different American Express Card to an eligible Platinum Card, any spend made on the prior Card Account will not count toward eligible spend. American Express® reserves the right to revoke unlimited Plaza Premium Lounge access if you return, reverse or charge back eligible purchases in a way that reduces your eligible spend below the Spend Requirement for the calendar year. If American Express®, in its sole discretion, determines that the Cardmember or their guests have engaged in abuse, misuse, or gaming in connection with access to the Plaza Premium Lounges in any way, or that the Cardmember or their guests intend to do so, we may cancel your Account. We may, at our discretion, consider it to be abuse related to the program if you earn benefit access from purchases and subsequently return or cancel those purchases.
10. Priority PassTM - For Cardmembers acquired on or after February 15, 2018 or have opted-in to the enhanced Priority Pass benefit:
Priority Pass™ - These Terms and Conditions govern Business Platinum Card participation in and use of the Priority Pass program. Priority Pass is an independent airport Lounge access program. At any visit to a Priority Pass Lounge that admits guests, you may bring in one (1) guest for no charge. Business Platinum Cardmembers will be charged for any additional guests. Additional accompanying guests are subject to a usage fee at the prevailing rate, which is subject to change without prior notice. Some Lounges do not admit guests. By enrolling in Priority Pass, you agree that you will be responsible for any additional accompanying guest visits and that your Business Platinum Card will be automatically charged after you have signed for the additional guest visit and it has been reported to Priority Pass by the participating Lounge. Additionally, American Express will verify your Card account number and provide updated Card account information to Priority Pass. If American Express®, in its sole discretion, determines that the Cardmember or their guests have engaged in abuse, misuse, or gaming in connection with access to the Priority Pass Lounges in any way, or that the Cardmember or their guests intend to do so, we may cancel your Account. 11. Fine Hotels + Resorts – Valid only for new Fine Hotels + Resorts (FHR) bookings made through Platinum Card Travel Service, americanexpress.ca/travel or americanexpress.ca/FHR. Payment must be made with an American Express Card in the Canadian Business Platinum Cardmember's name. Available for Canadian cardholders of the Business Platinum Card® from American Express. Business Platinum Cardmember must travel on the itinerary booked under FHR reservations to be eligible for benefits described. Limit of one (1) benefit package per room per stay. Benefit package can include Noon check-in, Room upgrade, Daily breakfast for two people, guaranteed 4:00 pm late check-out, plus a unique property benefit. Noon check-in and room upgrade based on availability and provided at check-in. Certain room categories are not eligible for room upgrades. Call Platinum Card Travel Service for details. The type and value of the daily breakfast (for two) varies by property. The actual value of the daily breakfast will be communicated at the time of check-in. Daily breakfast will be valued at a minimum of US$60 per room per day. Any charges that exceed the value of the daily breakfast will be the responsibility of the Cardmember and will be charged separately. To receive the breakfast credit, the breakfast bill must be charged to your hotel room. The breakfast credit will be applied at check-out. Unique property benefit varies by property, is subject to change, and cannot be redeemed for cash. To receive the unique property benefit, the eligible spend must be charged to your hotel room and the credit will be applied at check-out. FHR cannot be combined with other offers unless indicated. Benefit package expires at check-out. Business Platinum Cardmembers may book up to a maximum of three (3) rooms under the FHR Program per stay. Back-to-back stays booked by a single Cardmember, Cardmembers travelling in the same party and staying in the same room, within a 24-hour period at the same property are considered one stay and are ineligible for additional FHR benefits (“Prohibited Action”). American Express and the Property reserve the right to modify or revoke FHR benefits at any time without notice if we or they determine, in our or their sole discretion, that you may have engaged in a Prohibited Action, or have engaged in abuse, misuse, or gaming in connection with your FHR benefits. In the event the Business Platinum Cardmember cancels the reservation(s), FHR rates and benefit package will no longer apply to any remaining reservation(s). Participating Fine Hotels + Resorts properties and benefits are subject to change. Complimentary Wi-Fi is provided in room, with the exception of select properties where In-Room Wi-Fi is included as part of a mandatory daily resort fee or is not available. 12. The Hotel Collection - Valid at participating hotels for new bookings of at least two consecutive nights made through Platinum Card Travel Service, americanexpress.ca/travel or americanexpress.ca/THC. Payment must be made in full with an eligible American Express Card in the Canadian Business Platinum Cardmember’s name at time of checkout. The Business Platinum Cardmember must travel on the itinerary booked. (1) The Cardmember will receive the $100 USD credit as deduction from the final hotel bill when checking out of the hotel; $100 USD. Amenities vary by property and facilities available. To receive the credit, the eligible spend must be charged to your hotel room and the credit will be applied at check-out. Charges must be charged to the room and exclude charges for taxes, gratuities, fees and cost of room. To be eligible, Basic Business Platinum Cardmembers must book an eligible round-trip first class or business class flight with a minimum 1-night stay on the same itinerary through Platinum Card Travel Service and pay with their Business Platinum Card. Bookings must be made at least four hours prior to pick up time. Subject to availability. Booking changes or cancellations must be made with Platinum Card Travel Service. Please provide Platinum Card Travel Service notice of more than one hour prior to your scheduled pick up time of any change or cancellation. Failure to advise Platinum Card Travel Service of a change or cancellation within the minimum required time frame will count as one complimentary transfer usage. The Premium Airport Transfer Service must be within a 50-kilometer radius of the airport. Additional charges may apply and will need to be paid by the Business Platinum Cardmember if the car transfer goes over the 50-kilometer maximum.
