All social media at Poketo is handled internally by our creative team, including myself and my husband and co-founder Ted Vadakan. We define the look of Poketo and try to keep it clean, modern and consistent across all our social media platforms, from Facebook and Twitter to Instagram. Even as the company has grown and expanded, it has been key for us to be very personal and involved. Here are a few tips to help your social media stand out, too.
1. Keep it personal.
It's important that your social media aesthetic matches your brand, with one singular voice across all platforms—online, retail stores and social media. We make sure that our team knows the brand and has a unified voice when it comes to visuals and language. We’re very careful about how Poketo is represented online, but at the same time, we have fun doing it. We post at least three or four times a day.
2. Mix up the content.
Keeps things interesting by varying the content. Alternate between products, events and lifestyle to keep your audience engaged. We mix profiles of our employees and designers—where they like to travel, what they listen to, their favorite Poketo products—with plenty of striking photos and updates on store events, along with things we do in our daily life, such as a bike ride, a hike in the mountains or an awesome meal with friends. When we are hiring, we use social media to announce that as well.
Even if you don’t have a retail store, you can still show your brand culture in or out of the office. Show your personal side and offer a look behind the scenes. People are interested and intrigued by seeing things that give them a glimpse of the business.
3. Be sure to engage back.
Your followers want to feel heard and celebrated. Regrams and retweets are great ways to engage, as are contests and giveaways. To promote our stores, we asked people to share an image of the shop and hashtag it with #poketo. From that hashtag, we see all the images people post from our shop and we repost our favorite images, tagging our customers with their usernames. This celebrates our fans and builds our following.
4. Go beyond the virtual world.
We interact with our community in a real way by having weekly workshops, bi-monthly art shows and various other events, all of which are a vital part of our brand and crucial to our growth. We always highlight these events on social media—it ties everything back together and strengthens the brand.
