The marketing world is treading into an area of vague outcomes. The potential implications of Google Glass (a pair of glasses that gives the wearer an “augmented reality” by blending internet search and the real world) is not only unknown to Google, it is unknown to the entire marketing world. So how do you prepare for something so unpredictable? First, you pay close attention to the source itself, Google. Watch and listen to their announcements for both tip offs and straight up facts of what is coming. Second, stay on top of Google+. Google+ ties in nicely to the likely strategy of Google Glass by providing hyper local search content.
The release of Google Glass is only a few months away now. Don't expect the world to radically change overnight. Just like 1995 wasn't an explosive growth year for the Internet, it is also unlikely that Google Glass will be big out of the gate. But the people who mastered internet marketing in 1995 and 1996 became the dominate forces within a few years. Google Glass represents a brand new frontier, and it is probably worth the investment in being the first to master its marketing potential.
