Seriously? Who really wants to know your whereabouts 24/7? While Foursquare may be a great app for tweens and partiers, is it really a worthwhile app for businesses? You bet it is, but not if you simply check in to let people know where you are. Savvy businesses are now using Foursquare for location based marketing, adding value to Foursquare’s app that most users didn’t realize existed.
I’m not the kind of guy who would use Foursquare, or Twitter for that matter, to simply say, “I’m having coffee.” But I do like how Foursquare can literally become a magic tool for businesses who use it for location-based marketing, establishing yourself or your company as the go-to resource guy or gal in your city. Say you sell outdoor gear and skateboards. Start checking in, or have your customers check-in, with reviews on their favorite skating sites, or hiking trails, tips about camping, shelters, cheap but great food and things to be aware of when camping, hiking, hunting etc. in the area. Offer badges, discounts and rewards to the best tips of the week. Pretty soon your outdoor store will be known for being the go-to resource for all things outdoors, as well as great gear.
