Phishing is a type of fraud that attempts to collect private information via electronic means for nefarious use. A new type of phishing scam has appeared in the past 48 hours targeting small-business owners.
The scam begin with an email that appears to come from the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). It notifies recipients that the FTC is launching an investigation of the company due to numerous consumer complaints. It then prompts users to click on a link to learn more about the complaint.
If you do, the target site isn’t the FTC but instead a phishing scam that will install malware on your computer, which can be used to steal your financial login information and other sensitive data. If you receive an email that appears to be from the FTC, delete the email and contact the FTC directly.
