The other day I found myself shuffling through a deck of business cards from an industry event I’d attended a day or two previously. Some of the folks I remembered well, but others I had trouble placing… was he the one with the shaved head and the glasses? Or was it that other guy? Was this the woman who worked for that cool company…?
Which reminded me again: Why don’t more of us have more memorable, interesting, inspired business cards?
I confess that I’m as guilty as anyone here – mine are boring. There is nothing that might set my card apart from any other. In other words, if I were my business card and you met me at a business event, you'd promptly forget me.
Other companies actually do spend time thinking about their cards. If you are lucky enough to work in Marketing/PR at LEGO, for example, you get a business “card” that looks like this. These guys reinforce the LEGO branding in a memorable and fun way, but what’s even cooler is that LEGO tries to match the look of the person (gender, hair, glasses, etc.) to the mini-figure:
