Turn on CNN and you’re likely to see the horizontal scroll suggesting that you follow CNN’s breaking news on Twitter at http://twitter.com/CNNBRK. If you decided to follow, you’d join over one million others who are following CNN headlines through Twitter.
Drive down the street and you see a billboard for your favorite actor, Ashton Kutcher, asking you to follow him on Twitter. Ashton Kutcher was the first to amass over one million followers on Twitter. As of this writing, he has over 1.2 million followers. The participation of celebrities like Kutcher, and his wife Demi Moore, and Oprah, has done a lot to get people chattering about Twitter.
Not to mention that small businesses everywhere are jumping on board Twitter. It seems like every networking event I attend ends up with people talking about Twitter. Obviously, lots of business people are curious about Twitter. Some have even figured out how to leverage Twitter for their businesses.
So if you are feeling out in the cold, wondering what Twitter is, and whether you should get on board, I have a simple suggestion. A while ago I asked a friend of mine, Jim Kukral, to create a beginner’s video about Twitter. It’s short – and I suggest you watch it. It will help you get a feel for Twitter. And who knows, maybe it will help get you into Twitter.
