At the start of a working relationship between a freelancer and a business, formal agreements are often forgotten or dismissed. However, it’s critical for both sides to employ a set of agreement strategies. Consult with a lawyer if necessary. These strategies involve various ways of clarifying the relationship ahead of time. Consider using documents like a non-compete agreement, non-disclosure agreement and/or non-solicitation agreement. You also may want to designate who “owns” the work. Other considerations can include the freelancer’s business structure, insurance, payment terms, service scope and termination.
