How to Earn Amex Platinum Points

As always, the American Express Platinum Card provides lucrative ways to earn points on travel spending, including:

  • 5X Membership Rewards® points on airline ticket purchases made directly with airlines or through American Express Travel, on up to $500,000 in eligible spending per calendar year.
  • 5X Membership Rewards points on prepaid hotels booked through American Express Travel.

Treat Yourself to a Luxury Stay with Amex Platinum Hotel Benefits

Earning points is one thing, but there are plenty of rewarding perks that come with the Platinum Card and its $695 annual fee,1 including premium hotel benefits like the $200 Hotel Credit. Card Members can receive up to $200 back in statement credits each year on prepaid bookings at over 2,200 hand-selected hotels that are part of the Fine Hotels + Resorts® and The Hotel Collection programs. Bookings must be made through American Express Travel and charged to your Platinum Card.

Those two hotel programs are designed to provide Platinum Card Members with the most rewarding, rejuvenating stay possible. For example:

  • Fine Hotels + Resorts offers an exclusive suite of benefits, including perks like room upgrades when available at check-in, daily breakfast for two, guaranteed 4 pm late check-out, and complimentary Wi-Fi – worth an average total value of $6002 per stay.
  • The Hotel Collection offers a $100 experience credit to spend on qualifying dining, spa, and resort activities, plus room upgrades when available at check-in. Note that the experience credit varies by property, and you must stay at least two nights to qualify for the benefit.

Platinum Card Members also can enroll to receive complimentary Hilton Honors™ Gold status and Marriott Bonvoy™ Gold Elite status. Perks of Gold status depend on the hotel loyalty program, but you can generally earn benefits like extra loyalty points on stays and room upgrades when available.

Amex Platinum Airline Credits and Expedited Screening Make Flights a Breeze

Every minute counts when you’re eager to travel. Platinum Card Members can benefit from a $189 CLEAR® credit. Earn up to $189 per calendar year in statement credits on a CLEAR Plus membership (subject to auto-renewal). CLEAR uses unique attributes, such as eyes or fingerprints, to digitally verify identity to help you move through security checkpoints more quickly. Membership must be charged to your Platinum Card to receive the statement credit.

Card Members are still eligible to get either a $100 statement credit every four years for Global Entry, or an $85 credit every four-and-a half years for TSA PreCheck®, as long as the application fee is paid with the Platinum Card. If you’re approved for Global Entry, you’ll receive access to TSA PreCheck at no additional charge. Card Members can apply for TSA PreCheck through any Authorized Enrollment Provider.

Platinum also offers a $200 airline fee credit. This means that each calendar year, Card Members can receive up to $200 in statement credits toward eligible incidental fees, such as checked bags or in-flight refreshments, charged by the airline to your Card at one qualifying airline of your choice. You must select the airline prior to incurring an incidental charge, and you can change your chosen airline every January. That way, you can be sure you’re always getting the most out of the credit.

American Express relies on accurate airline transaction data to identify incidental fee purchases. If you do not see a credit for a qualifying incidental purchase on your eligible Card after four weeks, simply call the number on the back of your Card. See terms & conditions for more details.

Platinum Lounge Access Helps You Start Your Adventure Before Boarding

American Express Platinum helps you live for all moments, big and small. This includes providing an escape at the airport with the American Express Global Lounge Collection®. With complimentary access to more than 1,400 airport lounges across 140 countries and counting, you have more airport lounge options than any other credit card issuer on the market as of 3/2023.

Whether you’re looking for a unique dining experience or simply a space to relax or catch up on work, every Centurion Lounge provides unique amenities and exclusive perks – so you can fully appreciate even those in-between moments. In addition, the Escape Lounges – The Centurion Studio Partner – provide exclusive perks to eligible Card Members.

Ride in Style with the Amex Platinum Uber Credit

In partnership with Uber, Card Members get the $200 Uber Cash benefit, which involves $15 toward orders with Uber Eats or rides with Uber in the U.S. each month – plus a bonus $20 in December, for a total of up to $200 in Uber Cash. The benefit renews annually. Card Members must enroll by adding their Platinum Card to their Uber profile. Uber Cash and Uber VIP are available to Basic Card Members only.

Beyond Uber, Card Members can enjoy complimentary membership in select premium car rental loyalty programs. These memberships generally offer perks like earning points that can be redeemed for rentals and free upgrades. Card Members must enroll their Card with qualifying partners to be eligible for rental car loyalty programs.
