Dunton Hot Springs is Nestled in an alpine valley deep in the San Juan Mountains.
Colorado
Location
On 1,600 acres of wilderness in the San Juan Mountains. About two hours from the Durango, Telluride, or Montrose Airports.
Accommodations
12 private (one- to five-bedroom) log cabins that were once used by miners in the 19th century and have been restored and outfitted as mini luxury resorts, along with one glamping tent.
Amenities
Guests have exclusive access to five on-site, naturally sulfur-free hot springs and can dine in the original saloon where Butch Cassidy’s name is engraved in the bar. (It’s rumored he hid out there after robbing a bank in Telluride.)
Extraordinary Experiences
If staying in an original 19th-century ghost town with acres of hiking, mountain biking, snowshoeing, and horseback riding isn’t enough, have the resort organize a helicopter (for a modest fee) to land right outside of your cabin and shuttle you to Telluride for a day of heli-skiing at 14,000 feet.
What’s Included
All meals and beverages (including most alcohol), and many activities, such as snowshoeing, a guided Nordic ski adventure, and a winter wonderland experience with sleigh rides and ice skating.

Anantara Golden Triangle offers views of Myanmar, Laos, and Thailand.
Thailand
Location
On 160 acres in Northern Thailand’s ancient jungle, overlooking the Mekong and Ruak Rivers. Approximately 45 miles from the Chiang Rai International Airport.
Accommodations
40 rooms and 21 suites in a low-rise building overlooking a valley populated by grazing elephants. Décor is a sophisticated blend of local woods, art, and textiles, all in a neutral palette.
Amenities
Elephants are the main draw here, with daily activities including the opportunity to learn about and engage with these rescued gentle giants, as well as observe the pachyderms as they feed, bathe, and play. Additionally, the resort’s Spice Spoons cooking school allows guests to learn how to make authentic Thai dishes.
Extraordinary Experiences
View three countries (Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar) from your room’s balcony or the property’s infinity pool. Visit during the Loy Krathong festival each November (happening in 2019 on November 13), which is celebrated throughout Thailand and takes place during the full moon of the 12th month according to traditional Thai lunar calendar. The resort gets into the spirit with krathong-making classes (floats made from banana tree trunks), a cocktail reception with dancers, and then transports guests into the village of Chiang Saen to partake in the night markets, fireworks, and floods of people releasing paper lanterns into the sky.
What’s Included
All meals, mini-bar, some alcohol, transfers, admission to the Hall of Opium Museum, plus the choice of an elephant or spa experience.
