In 2019, an important part of the revised EU Payment Services Directive (PSD2) came into force: Strong Customer Authentication (SCA). This means that all card providers, such as American Express, will have to verify the identity of customers more often with online transactions, with contactless payment in the store and when logging in to an online account.
