Do I have to use my American Express Card at specific merchants to earn Membership Rewards® points?
Every time you spend on your American Express Card anywhere in New Zealand or overseas you will earn Membership Rewards points.

How long does it take to receive your reward?
Voucher/gift card rewards: either a voucher or a gift card will be mailed or couriered to your nominated address within 10 business days from date of redemption. Please refer to the voucher/gift card for the validity date.

Can I link other Cards to help me accumulate more Membership Rewards points?
If you hold other American Express Cards eligible to earn Membership Rewards points, these can be linked to one Membership Rewards Account. You can also earn Membership Rewards points on all Supplementary Cards attached to your Card Account

Will I get Membership Rewards points on Balance Transfers?
Balance Transfers from other credit card accounts are not eligible for points on the amounts transferred. American Express may offer points on Balance Transfers as part of specific promotions subject to the Terms and Conditions of those promotions.

Can I earn Membership Rewards points on my American Express Corporate Card?
Yes, but you need to get approval from your company to join Membership Rewards and an annual Membership Rewards or linking fee applies. For fee information refer to the rates and fees page.


Do I have to use my Membership Rewards points within a certain time frame?
Unlike many other loyalty programmes, Membership Rewards points do not expire as long as your Card Account is kept in good standing. So you can accumulate points and redeem them as and when you’re ready.

Am I able to purchase points so that I can get to my reward faster?
You can 'top up' your points balance to fast-track a special reward at any time. Membership Rewards points can be purchased in multiples of 1,000 ($20 = 1,000 points or $20 = 1,100 points for Platinum Cards), with a maximum of 15,000 points per reward. The cost of these points will be billed directly to your Card Account and will appear on the statement immediately following your purchase.  Points purchased could not be transferred to an airline partner or a hotel frequent guest account. They can be used for all other Rewards options.


Does American Express automatically transfer points to my airline partner or frequent guest account?
Points are not automatically transferred to your airline partner or a hotel frequent guest account. With Membership Rewards you have the choice and flexibility to decide how and when you would like to redeem points.

Can anyone else redeem points from my Account?
Unless otherwise authorised, only the Basic Card Member can redeem points accumulated in the Programme Account. To authorise someone else to be able to redeem points a Third Party Authorisation form needs to be completed by the Basic Card Member. Please call 0800 44 22 08 for this form to be sent to you.

How long does it take to transfer points into my participating airline partner or hotel frequent guest account?
Provided you are already enrolled in the airline partner or hotel frequent guest programme, it takes 2 to 14 business days (depending on the partner) for points to appear in your airline partner or hotel frequent guest account.

Can I transfer points into someone else's airline partner or frequent guest account?
American Express points can only be transferred by you into your airline partner or hotel frequent guest account. See the Membership Rewards Terms and Conditions

If I'm enrolled in Membership Rewards with Turbo™ and make a purchase, how many points per $1 spent will I earn?
If you are enrolled in Turbo you will earn 2 Membership Rewards points for every $1 you spend. Only available to Card Members enrolled in Turbo prior to 01 March 2010.

When will my Membership Rewards and if applicable Turbo fee be charged?
Your Membership Rewards fee and, if applicable, Turbo fee will be charged on your first statement following your enrolment and then annually on the anniversary of your enrolment. Only available to Card Members enrolled in Turbo prior to 01 March 2010.

If I cancel Membership Rewards or Turbo part way through the year will I receive a refund?
No. Neither your annual Membership Rewards fee nor your Turbo fee is refundable. Turbo is only available to Card Members enrolled in Turbo prior to 01 March 2010.

Enrolment and participation in Membership Rewards is subject to the Membership Rewards Terms and Conditions and Partner Terms and Conditions. A fee may apply. Only purchases are eligible for Membership Rewards points. To transfer Membership Rewards points into an airline rewards or frequent guest partner program you must be enrolled in Membership Rewards and be a member of the partner program. Membership of the partner program is the Cardmembers responsibility and is subject to the Terms and Conditions of the applicable program. A joining fee may apply. Gift Card or voucher rewards are not redeemable or exchangeable for cash or credit and are valid for a period of 3 months from the date of issues, unless otherwise stated. Normal retailer Gift Card and voucher conditions apply.
