Budgeting Apps for Android and iPhone

There are plenty of mobile budgeting apps that can help you track your spending and manage your money on the go. Choose the one that works best for you.

Find the Right Budgeting App: Options for Android and iPhone

Mobile budgeting apps make it easier to stay on top of your finances. With a few taps, you can monitor your transactions and see if your spending is in line with your budget. Some options are fairly basic while others are more robust. The important thing is that you choose a budgeting app that can fit your needs and be a good companion to banking products, like American Express Serve®. Compare your options, read user reviews and download the app that’s right for you1. The majority of budgeting apps are available for Android and iPhone. There are some options, however, which are exclusive to each platform. Here are some choices available to both Android and iPhone users (costs, availability and product descriptions are current as of May 1, 2016).

Mint (iOS/Android) - Free

This budgeting app allows you to link your bank accounts as well as any prepaid, debit and credit cards you use for expenses. With Mint, you can see how every transaction impacts your overall budget in real time. The app also allows you to set up recurring and one-time bill payments and even monitors your credit score.

You Need a Budget [YNAB] (iOS/Android) - $5/month, $50 annually

If you overspend in one area, YNAB helps you make adjustments in others. The app also provides an assessment of how you managed your money in any given month, so you can make necessary changes moving forward. YNAB offers a lot of functionality, but it comes with a price tag. The app costs $5/month or $50/year, so you may want to consider other options.

This budgeting app holds you accountable. Level Money monitors your income and expenses and shows you how much money you have to spend on any given day. The app also puts a strong emphasis on saving money and paying down debt and has tools to help you do both.

BUDGT (iOS) - Free

BUDGT requires you to enter your data manually, so it’s a good option for people who are reluctant to link their bank accounts. Like many other budgeting apps, BUDGT helps you sort your daily expenses by category and projects how much money you’ll have left to save at the end of each month.
