FAQs – Cash Access

To help you use your American Express Card to withdraw cash at ATMs, you may find the answers to the following questions helpful:

For general FAQs visit the American Express website.

Q1: Why would I need cash?

Sometimes, cash is the only option. Whether it's your local corner shop or a street vendor in Bangkok, some merchants only accept cash. In many parts of the world cash isn't just a convenience, it's a necessity.

Once enrolled, your American Express Card allows you to easily get cash anytime you need it, through more than 1.2 million ATMs worldwide. And although you may typically use your debit card when you want cash, your American Express Card can be a valuable asset, especially in an emergency. Your Card can also be used if your debit card is lost or stolen for cash flow needs, or simply for peace of mind when travelling.

Remember that before you can access an ATM for cash, you'll need to apply (if you have a Charge Card) and activate this service. If you have a Credit Card, please call the number on the back of your Card to activate this service.

All applications and activations are subject to status and existing account history.
