In the unfortunate event of a fraudulent transaction on your account, we offer a Fraud Protection Guarantee. This states that if you're a victim of fraud and have taken reasonable care, you won't be held responsible for any fraudulent charges incurred.

If you're unlucky enough to be a victim of fraud, it's our job to take care of it. You won't be held responsible for fraudulent charges, as long as you have taken reasonable care with your account details and PIN. So you can relax and spend securely, anywhere in the world.  

The moment we are alerted to a fraud, our team will work to resolve any issues as soon as possible and return your account to normal.  For example, we'll credit your account in full and arrange a replacement Card with a new and secure Card number.

We're proud of our fraud prevention and detection records. That's because whatever you buy, wherever you buy it, the transaction will be processed through our Secure System.

Unlike other card issuers, an American Express® transaction usually involves only three parties; you, the merchant and American Express.

The benefits to you are:
• There's less risk of fraud because there's usually no third  party involvement
• We can spot issues quickly as soon as they arise
• We can resolve problems faster where we have a direct relationship with all parties

 
Our early detection systems constantly scan your account for uncharacteristic transactions that we suspect may be fraudulent. If we identify a suspect transaction we will try to contact you as soon as possible to check its origin. So it's important to keep Customer Services updated with your contact details, then if there's a problem, we can contact you and resolve the issue quickly.
