GETTING STARTED WITH YOUR NEW CARD

Everything you need to know is here

Here is all you need to know about getting started with your Starwood Preferred Guest® Credit Card. You’ll find helpful advice about online Credit Card activation, how to register for and manage your Account online via Online Services, how to pay your bill and more.

If you haven’t already activated your Credit Card, you can do so quickly and securely online now.

You can also register for Online Services at the same time which will allow you to manage your Account whether at home or on the go via the Amex App, 24-7. You will be able to:

  • View your PIN
  • View your Account balance and pay your bill online
  • Set up mobile and email Account alerts to help keep up to date
  • Manage your marketing preferences and register for special offers and updates
  • Watch your Starpoints® add up1
  • See all your Credit Card benefits, rewards and offers.

Your PIN number is a four digit code that you will need to use to authorise Credit Credit Card transactions in-store. If you didn’t select your PIN during your Credit Card application process, you’ll receive a letter by post enclosing an automatically generated PIN. For security reasons, this will be sent separately from your Starwood Preferred Guest® Credit Card and should arrive within 10 business days of receiving your Credit Card. If you want to change your PIN for something simpler to remember, it’s easily done at one of the 30,000 UK LINK cash machines.

Forgotten your PIN? Log in to your Online Services Account to view it online. You will be required to enter your customer password, which is the four-digit password used when calling customer services. You will have the opportunity to set up your customer password when activating your Credit Card online.

Credit Card number and security code

Your Credit Card number is embossed on the front of your Credit Card. The Credit Card security code is an added security feature to help protect you against fraud. Your four-digit security code can be found on the front of your Credit Card, towards the right, and printed flat (unlike the Credit Card number). You may be asked for this number during phone and online transactions.

Customer Password

Your customer password is a four-digit code used to identify you when you call Customer Services and also to view your PIN online through Online Services.

You can set up your customer password when you activate your Credit Card online by choosing from four options: mother’s birthday (DD/MM), father’s birthday (DD/MM), numeric password (four digits) or memorable date (DD/MM).

To reset your customer password, please call customer services using the number on the back of your Credit Card.

More rewarding than cash

You'll pick up your usual rewards every time you use your Credit Card instead of cash for those smaller everyday purchases like sandwiches, coffee or travel.

Just as secure as your normal transactions

Our contactless technology is just as safe and secure as Chip and PIN. Every transaction is protected by the usual fraud protection guarantee offered by American Express, making it safer than using cash. As an additional security measure we may occasionally ask you to complete a traditional Chip and PIN transaction.

A quick, convenient way to pay

Simply touch your Credit Card against a contactless-enabled Credit Card reader and the reader should confirm with either a light, beep or indicator to show that your Credit Card has been read.
You can use your Credit Card at the thousands of shops, restaurants and bars around the UK that accept American Express contactless.

Getting started

You may need to complete one Chip and PIN transaction at first to enable your new Credit Card for contactless payments.
