As the strategic investment group within American Express, we seek to invest in innovative startups in order to enhance our company's core capabilities and accelerate our efforts in consumer commerce and B2B services. Across the globe, we strive to foster meaningful relationships with startups in our portfolio and beyond.
We are interested in both domestic and international investment opportunities. We prefer to work together with a syndicate of investors, and we are stage-agnostic following the seed round. We work very closely with management to help maximize returns for both parties through strategic pilots and partnerships.
We look for companies that will help accelerate American Express's digital transformation, strengthen connection to our global network of Card Members, and develop new ways to drive contextual relevance for commerce on new and existing platforms. Areas of interest include mobile, consumer payments, marketplaces, lending, loyalty and lifestyle services.
We seek companies that offer new tools and technology that empower large, mid-size and small businesses to grow and better manage their operations. Areas of interest include business payments, process automation, lending and small business services.
We also explore companies that are using new technologies and sources of data to improve the underlying fundamentals of our business. Areas of interest include servicing, customer acquisition, fraud detection, security, data analytics and underwriting.
