Q1: Why did you add benefits to my Starwood Preferred Guest® Credit Card from American Express?

A: We’ve consistently heard feedback from our members and wanted to ensure that Card benefits accommodate the changing needs of the global traveler.

Q2: What new benefits have you added to the SPG Credit Card?

A: Your current benefits remain unchanged, and we have added the following new travel benefits to the Card:

  • No foreign transaction fees 1

  • Free in-room, premium Internet access while staying with SPG® Participating Hotels. 2 Booking terms apply.

  • Starwood hotels typically offer two tiers of Internet access- standard and premium. Premium Internet access allows for streaming content and uploading and downloading large files – in addition to web browsing and emailing. Standard Internet access is sufficient for web browsing and emailing.

  • Enroll in the Boingo American Express Preferred Plan and receive complimentary, unlimited Wi-Fi access. 3

  • Receive Wi-Fi access on up to four devices to more than 1,000,000 hotspots worldwide and pay no Wi-Fi roaming fees. Confirm eligibility, and then access Boingo’s Wi-Fi services by creating a Boingo American Express Preferred Plan account. Q3: What are the existing benefits of my SPG Credit Card?

A: The core features of your Starwood card will not change. As a reminder, your other Card Benefits are:

  • Earn up to 5 Starpoints for every eligible dollar spent at Starwood hotels and resorts - that’s 2 points from American Express and 2 or 3 Starpoints from Starwood Preferred Guest, based on what Elite status is held by the Card Member.

  • Earn 1 Starpoint for every eligible dollar spent on all other purchases.

  • Earn Gold Status after spending $30,000 in a year on the card.

  • Get to elite status faster with a credit of 5 nights and 2 stays toward status annually- the Card Member’s SPG Account is credited with this each February.

Q4: Is the annual fee increasing?

A: Yes, as of August 11th, the new annual fee will be $95.

Q5: How does the complimentary premium Internet access at Starwood Hotels & Resorts benefit work?

A: Starting August 11th, 2015, Basic Card Members can receive complimentary in-room, premium internet access while staying at a Starwood hotels and resorts on Starpoint® Eligible Rate reservations.

Starpoint Eligible Rate reservations” mean reservations that are booked through SPG channels, including, the SPG app, or calls directly to hotels that participate in the SPG program. If you book through a third party (such as Expedia, Travelocity or Orbitz), or as part of a group rate, you would not get the benefit. You must provide your SPG account number at the time of reservation or check-in to take advantage of this benefit during your stay.

This service is limited to one room per eligible Card Member per stay, regardless of how many rooms have been reserved. If you have questions regarding eligibility based on how you book, go to

Q6: Will I get complimentary premium internet even when I redeem Starpoints for the stays?

A: Yes, Basic Card Members receive premium internet for both paid and redeemed stays, as long as the stay was booked through an SPG channel.

Q7: I have an upcoming stay that I’ve already booked, how do I get these benefits?

A: You will have access to all of your new benefits during stays on or after August 11th that were booked through, the SPG app, or directly with the hotel via phone or website. Foreign transaction fees will be applied if you paid for your stay prior to August 11th. All foreign transactions occurring on or after August 11th will not incur a foreign transaction fee.

Q8: If I book a stay now, do I get these benefits?

A: Yes. For any stays occurring on or after August 11th that were booked through, the SPG app, or directly with the hotel via phone or website, you will receive these benefits regardless of when you made the booking. In addition, you will not be charged foreign transaction fees for any foreign transactions made on or after August 11th. Regardless of when your stay begins, any pre-paid rates for international hotels booked prior to August 11th are subject to foreign transaction fees.

Q9. If I check in to an SPG property prior to August 11th, but a portion of my stay falls on that date, will I receive my new benefits?

A: Yes, you are eligible for your new Card benefits as of August 11th. If you are not notified by the property that your new benefits are being applied to your stay as of August 11th please contact a member of the property staff or SPG Customer Support for assistance.

Q10: If I don’t currently have the SPG Credit Card and apply between now and August 11th, will I receive these benefits?

A: Yes, you will receive these new benefits starting August 11th, in addition to the existing Card benefits.

Q11: What if I also have the SPG Business Credit Card?

1. No Foreign Transaction Fees. American Express will not charge any foreign transaction fee on the purchases you make outside of the United States with your Card. However, there may be circumstances where ATMs or merchants charge a fee on foreign transactions.

2. Free, in room, premium Internet Access. For Basic Card Members only on Starpoint Eligible Rate reservations at SPG Participating Hotels. Exclusions of Starpoint Eligible Rate reservations might include rooms booked through a group rate as part of an event and the SPG Member does not directly pay the SPG Participating Hotel for such room; through a tour operator; or through an online travel channel or third party channel (such as,,,,,,, or A full description of Starpoint Eligible Rates and SPG Participating Hotels can be found at The SPG Member account number must be provided at the time of reservation and/or check-in. Premium Internet access is limited to one room per eligible Card Member per Stay regardless of how many rooms have been reserved. No incremental benefit will be provided at SPG® Participating Hotels that offer complimentary in-room Internet access to all guests. SPG Participating Hotels that have mandatory resort charges that include Internet access will provide a replacement benefit, to be determined at each SPG Participating Hotel’s discretion.

3. American Express Preferred Boingo Plan. Complimentary access to Boingo Wi-Fi is being provided as a benefit to Card Members with eligible Cards. In order to access the benefit, Card Members with eligible Cards must first be authenticated and create a Boingo American Express Preferred Plan (or, the “AXP Plan”) account. Internet access may be required in order to be authenticated and create an account. For questions on eligibility, call the number on the back of your Card. If you submit your American Express Card number to Boingo to verify that your Card is eligible for this benefit, Boingo will send your Card number to American Express. Upon receipt of your Card number from Boingo, American Express will provide confirmation of your Card’s eligibility for the American Express Preferred Plan to Boingo. Boingo will not store or use your Card number for any other purpose. Boingo’s use of this information is subject to its privacy policy.If you have an existing paid Boingo subscription plan, your existing plan will not be automatically cancelled when you enroll in the AXP Plan. If you would like to cancel any existing paid subscription plan, call Boingo’s dedicated AXP Plan line. The AXP Plan only provides access to land-based Wi-Fi services and does not include in-flight Wi-Fi. Available hotspots in Boingo’s network, including those managed and operated by Boingo and its partners (“Boingo’s Network”) are subject to change at any time. Visit to locate hotspots. Your use of Boingo’s Wi-Fi services is subject to Boingo’s End User License Agreement and Customer Agreement and other applicable terms and conditions, including Boingo’s privacy and security policies, available at Notwithstanding anything to the contrary set forth in Boingo’s terms and conditions, American Express Card Members with eligible Cards (i) will not be charged for enrollment in the AXP Plan, and (ii) will be permitted to connect no more than four devices to Boingo’s Network per month. Simultaneous use of devices with a single account is limited to a hotspot. By subscribing for this benefit, you acknowledge that American Express is not responsible for and does not guarantee the quality, security, coverage or availability of Boingo’s Network or the free Wi-Fi hotspots accessed through the Wi-Finder App. You agree that use of Wi-Fi accessed through Boingo is at your own risk. Use of the AXP Plan is limited to authorized Card Members only. This benefit is non-transferable, it is your responsibility to ensure that no one else has access to your account details. Your account may be terminated for breach of any terms or conditions or for abuse of your AXP Plan account. From time to time, Boingo may request that you re-authenticate your Boingo American Express Preferred Plan account in order to confirm that you are still a Card Member with an eligible Card.
