What is this program about?

American Express has partnered with Best Buy® to allow Card Members enrolled in the Membership Rewards® program to use points for purchases at BestBuy.com. Card Members can choose to use points to pay for all or part of their purchase using an eligible Card. There is no registration or enrollment required to participate in this program.

Who is eligible to participate?

To participate, you must have an American Express Consumer Card, Business Card from American Express OPEN, or Corporate Card enrolled in the Membership Rewards program and be authorized to use points. Click here to view eligible Cards.

  
How do I know if I’m authorized to use points? If I’m not authorized, how do I become authorized?

All Basic Card Members (primary Card holders) are authorized to earn and use Membership Rewards points for purchases. Additional Card Members can earn
Membership Rewards points but will not be able to use them unless the Basic Card Member enables them to do so. If you are an Additional Card Member and the Basic Card Member enables you to redeem points, you are considered authorized to use points and can participate in the Best Buy program. To find out if you are authorized to redeem points, please check with your Basic Card Member.  

If you recently became an authorized Additional Card Member, or just enabled the Membership Rewards program on your Card, it may take a few days for the option to use points at BestBuy.com to become active.

  
I am the Basic Card Member (primary Card holder) and would like to change the authorization status of my Additional Card Member(s) to redeem Membership Rewards points. How do I do that?

Please visit the Card Authorization section on www.membershiprewards.com to edit your settings or please contact Membership Rewards program Customer Care at 1-800-297-3276.

  
I have an eligible Card, but was not given the option to use points on BestBuy.com.

You will only be given the option to use Membership Rewards points if:

  • You are using an eligible American Express Card with an account in good standing
  • Your account is not in default when you make your purchase
  • You are the Basic Card Member (primary Card holder) or authorized by the Basic Card Member to redeem points
  • You have at least two points in your Membership Rewards program account

How do I use points to pay for my purchase on BestBuy.com?

If you checkout as a Guest, after you enter your eligible Card information, click the “See Points Balance” button to view the available points balance and the associated dollar value to use for your purchase. Then, simply enter the dollar amount you would like applied and continue with the checkout process to complete your purchase, noting that you may edit your selection before you click “Place Order.” 

If you have a BestBuy.com account and enter your eligible Card information, you can click the “See Points Balance” button to view the available points balance and the associated dollar value to use for your purchase. 

If you already have an eligible Card saved to your BestBuy.com account, after the first time you click on the “See Points Balance” button, you will automatically be shown your points balance at Checkout during your future visits. 

  
Can I choose to pay for all or part of my purchase using points?

Yes. During the checkout process, if you are an authorized user, you will see the available points balance and its associated dollar value to use for your purchase. You can choose to pay for your entire purchase using points (providing you have enough) or you can choose to use points for only part of your order – it’s up to you.

  
What if I cancel or return my BestBuy.com purchase after using points?

If you cancel or return a purchase and used points toward the purchase, Best Buy will refund the corresponding dollar amount of the purchase to the American Express Card you used. Please allow 2 to 4 days for the refund to post to your billing statement. 

In order to have the Membership Rewards points returned to your account, please contact Membership Rewards program Customer Care at 1-800-297-3276.

  
The points balance displayed at Checkout is not correct.

The Membership Rewards point balance shown on BestBuy.com reflects the most up-to-date balance information. If you have made recent purchases using points, please allow 2 to 4 days for changes to be reflected in your points balance. 

You can review your point activity by logging into your online rewards summary page at www.membershiprewards.com and viewing the “Activity Detail” tab.

  
I used points for my purchase, but it’s not appearing on my Membership Rewards program statement.

Your transaction should appear on your online rewards summary shortly after your transaction. Please allow 2 to 4 days. If it has been more than 4 days since your transaction has occurred, please contact Membership Rewards program Customer Care at 1-800-297-3276.

If there is a processing error with your choice to use points, your Eligible Card will be charged and the corresponding credit will not be issued to the Eligible Card account for your transaction. In this event, if you would like to use points for your transaction, please contact Membership Rewards program Customer Care at 1-800-297-3276 for assistance.

  
A charge for the full dollar amount is showing on my online Card statement, but I used points for my purchase.

Your points redemption will be reflected on your billing statement and Membership Rewards program statement. If you used points for all or part of your purchase, your billing statement will show a charge for the total amount of your purchase and an offsetting credit for the dollar amount used in points and your Membership Rewards program statement will show the deduction of points. 

Please allow up to 2 to 4 days for changes to be reflected in both places. If a credit is processed after your Card billing statement’s closing date, it will appear in your next statement.

  
I didn’t want to use points for my purchase, but my Membership Rewards program statement shows that points were redeemed for my purchase. What should I do?

In the unlikely event this occurs, please contact Membership Rewards program Customer Care at 1-800-297-3276 for assistance.

  
Can I use points to pay for purchases in-store at Best Buy?

This program is currently only available online at BestBuy.com.

  
Where can I find a list of all of my points redemptions?

You can view your Membership Rewards points redemption information by logging in to your online rewards summary page at www.membershiprewards.com and clicking on the "Activity Detail" tab.

  
I want to stop seeing the available points balance for the eligible Card stored in my BestBuy.com account. How can I do that? If I want to see the available points balance in the future, can I do that?

If you do not want to see the available points balance for the eligible Card stored in your BestBuy.com account, you will need to go to your account and remove that Card by clicking “Remove Card.” Best Buy will remove your Card account and all data related to Membership Rewards points and you will no longer see the available points balance.

If you would like to see the available points balance for your eligible Card in the future, simply enter your eligible Card details and click the “See Points Balance” button during checkout. Please note, if you already have your eligible Card saved to your BestBuy.com account, after the first time you click on the click the “See Points Balance” button, you will automatically be shown your points balance at Checkout during your future visits.
