Amex Express Checkout is the fast, secure way for American Express® Card Members who have an americanexpress.com account and hold an eligible American Express Card to complete purchases with participating online merchants and in participating merchant apps – just look for the “Amex Express Checkout” button in the merchant’s checkout experience. With Amex Express Checkout, Card Members can enter their americanexpress.com User ID and Password and authorize American Express to auto-fill payment and account information into a merchant’s online or mobile checkout page in just a few clicks. Additionally, in select participating merchant apps, Card Members with Touch ID-enabled Apple devices have the option to use Touch ID with Amex Express Checkout.

Yes. Security and service are priorities for American Express. Amex Express Checkout uses security measures to keep your Card number and personal information secure during the Amex Express Checkout process. Amex Express Checkout uses multi-factor authentication to reduce the risk of fraudulent transactions, and your actual Card number is not shared with merchants. Instead, American Express issues a merchant-specific token that corresponds to your Card number. If a token were compromised, the fraud risk would be restricted to the specific merchant.
There are no fees associated with using Amex Express Checkout. However, if you choose to receive a one-time access code via SMS, you may incur standard messaging fees from your mobile phone carrier.
If you are using a Touch ID-enabled Apple device:
If you do not already have an online account with American Express, you will need to create a User ID and Password by visiting americanexpress.com and clicking “Create New Online Account.” Please keep in mind that if you change your User ID or Password on either americanexpress.com or during an Amex Express Checkout experience, those changes will be reflected as part of your americanexpress.com account.
To retrieve your User ID or to reset your Password, click the “Forgot User ID or Password?” link on either americanexpress.com or on the American Express hosted pop-up page that is part of the Amex Express Checkout experience.
For security purposes, American Express may require either a one-time access code or a CID to authenticate a Card Member.
To prevent unauthorized access to your account, we will lock your online account if you enter an incorrect User ID, Password, CID, or one-time access code too many times. You can unlock your account by calling the number on the back of your Card for assistance.
All purchases completed with Amex Express Checkout will begin with “CHKOUT” on your American Express billing statement.

If you authorize a merchant to save your Eligible Card to your merchant account profile, your saved Eligible Card information will be subject to such merchant's privacy policies and terms and conditions. If you use Touch ID with Amex Express Checkout in a merchant app, when you select “Enable,” you authorize American Express to share your billing and Card information with the merchant each time you use Touch ID on your device. American Express does not have access to your fingerprint information, so we do not share your fingerprint information with the merchant.

If you are using a Touch ID-enabled Apple device and you are in a merchant app that has Amex Express Checkout, you may be presented with the option to enable Touch ID during the Amex Express Checkout process. By enabling Touch ID, you are allowing anyone who has a fingerprint stored on your device to access Amex Express Checkout and use Amex Express Checkout to make purchases on certain merchant apps that have Touch ID available for Amex Express Checkout. Please review the fingerprints that are stored on your device and make sure all should be authorized to use your Card account for a purchase using Amex Express Checkout.
No. You can only have one Card associated for Touch ID with Amex Express Checkout per merchant app on your Apple device.
Yes, you can enable Touch ID on one iPhone and one iPad. However, you cannot enable Touch ID on two iPhones at the same time in the same merchant app. If you enable Touch ID in a merchant app on one iPhone and then enable Touch ID in the same merchant app on another iPhone, you will disable Touch ID in the merchant app on the first iPhone where you enabled it.

Follow these steps to change your Card enabled for Touch ID within a merchant app:
To turn off the Touch ID prompt during an Amex Express Checkout purchase, select the “Don’t prompt me again” button when you are on the enable Touch ID screen during the Amex Express Checkout process. Once selected, American Express will no longer display the enable Touch ID option again in the merchant app on the Apple device you are using.
In the future, if you want the option to enable Touch ID with Amex Express Checkout on the same Apple device and in the same merchant app again, you will need to delete and reinstall the merchant app.
To disable Touch ID in a merchant app after it has been enabled, tap the Amex Express Checkout button on the merchant’s checkout page. When the Touch ID prompt appears, tap “Cancel” and then tap “Disable Touch ID.” You can also disable Touch ID by removing all fingerprints or deleting the merchant app from your Apple device.
