Uber Rides with Platinum and Uber Rides with Centurion - Frequently Asked Questions

1. About the Benefit

  
What do I get with the Uber Rides with Platinum and Uber Rides with Centurion benefit?

With your eligible Card, you'll receive $15 in Uber credits for US rides every month, plus a $20 bonus in December, delivered through an exclusive Uber app experience. That's up to $200 for Uber rides annually. You'll also automatically become an Uber VIP where available and will be matched with top-rated drivers, so that even a 5-minute trip can be a 5-star experience.

What American Express® Cards are eligible for this benefit?

The following US Consumer Platinum Cards are eligible for the benefit: 

  • The Platinum Card® from American Express 
  • The Platinum Card® from American Express for Ameriprise 
  • The Platinum Card® from American Express for Charles Schwab 
  • The Platinum Card® from American Express for Goldman Sachs 
  • The Platinum Card® from American Express for Mercedes-Benz 
  • The Platinum Card® from American Express for Morgan Stanley 

US Centurion® personal Card holders are also eligible for this benefit.

  
Are any additional Card Members on my account eligible to receive the benefit?

No, only the primary Card Member will receive this benefit.

How can I enroll in the Uber benefit?

You will be automatically enrolled in the benefit when you add your eligible Card to your Uber account. If your Card is already linked to your Uber account, we recommend updating to the most recent version of the Uber app to enjoy the full benefit experience within the app.

If you’ve never used Uber, you will first need to download the iOS or Android Uber app and create an Uber account.

  
How do I use my credits?

After connecting your eligible Card to your Uber account, you will be able apply the credits to an Uber ride at the start of your trip. Please know, these credits will only be applied to the first Uber account that you link your eligible Card to.  

  
What do I get with Uber VIP status?

Uber VIP matches riders with the top-rated drivers available in their area. There is no additional cost for the VIP rides and the same standard Uber fares apply. From time to time, there may be various promotions and offers for riders with VIP status. Generally, there is a minimum ride requirement to achieve Uber rider VIP status, but eligible Card Members receive this status automatically as part of this benefit. 

Uber VIP is available in select cities. The list of cities where VIP status is currently available can be found on t.uber.com/amexfaq.

  
When will I get the Uber credits?

The credits will appear in your Uber app on the first of every month. You’ll have all month to use the credits on one or more rides. When you select to apply the credits toward a ride in the US, the credits will be applied to the cost of your ride in the Uber app.

  
When do the credits expire?

The credits will expire at midnight on the last day of the month and the new credits will be automatically added to your Uber account the first day of the month.

  
If I didn’t get to use the credits during a month, do they roll over to the next month?

No, the monthly credits do not roll over from month to month. If any amount of the credit is not used during a month, it will expire on the last day of that month.

  
I added my Card to my Uber account. Why don’t I don’t see the benefit?

You will see the benefit if:

  1. Your American Express Card that you added to your Uber account is eligible for the benefit
  2. You are the primary Card Member
  3. You are using the first Uber account to which the eligible Card was added

  
I just upgraded to a Platinum/Centurion Card. When can I start using this benefit?

It may take up to 48 hours for Uber to recognize your upgraded Card as an eligible Card for the Uber benefit. If your new Card is not a payment method on your Uber account, you can add your Card at any time and you will receive a notification in the Uber app when the benefit is available.

  
If I have multiple eligible Cards, will I receive the monthly credits for each Card?

If you are the primary Card Member on multiple eligible Card accounts, and those Cards are payment methods in your Uber account, you will receive the combination of credits for multiple Cards. For example, if you have two eligible Cards, you will receive $30 in credits each month for the combination of the two $15 credits. In December, you will receive $70 for the combination of the two $35 credits.

  
Can I transfer the Uber credits from one Uber account to another Uber account?

Yes. Follow these steps to switch which Uber account gets the credits:

  1. Delete the eligible Card as a payment method on the Uber account(s) that you do not wish to receive the benefit.* 
  2. Add the Card as a payment method on the Uber account you wish to receive the benefit. If the Card is already on this account you can skip this step.
  3. Complete steps 1 and 2 by 12:00am EST on the 1st of the month. The benefit will switch Uber accounts for the new month.

*You can re-add your eligible Card on the additional Uber account(s) after completing these steps if you wish to use this Card as a payment method, however you will not receive the credits on these accounts.

  
If I removed my eligible Card from my Uber account, will I still be able to use the credits that were placed on my Uber account?

Yes. The credits will be available for use through the last day of the month. Please know that your eligible Card must be a payment method on your Uber account for your monthly credits to refresh on the first of the next month.

4. Benefit Opt Out

  
Can I opt out of receiving this benefit?

Yes. To opt out of receiving this complimentary benefit, please call the number on the back of your Card and a Customer Care Professional will assist you.

  
I previously opted out of the Uber benefit. Can I opt back in?

Yes.  If you would like to opt back in to the Uber benefit, please call the number on the back of your Card and a Customer Care Professional will assist you. 

5. 2X Membership Rewards Program with Uber

  
I previously earned 2X Membership Rewards Points when I used my Platinum/Centurion Card with Uber. Will I continue to receive the 2X points when I use my Card for an eligible ride?

Yes, you will continue to earn 2X points if you use an eligible Card to pay for an eligible ride. If you use the Uber credits for your ride and your ride costs more than the credits you have available, you will earn 2X Membership Rewards points for the amount charged to an eligible American Express Card. I used to have the ability to use Membership Rewards points for eligible rides with Uber. Will I continue to have this option?

Yes. If you have added an eligible Card to your Uber account you will see the option to use points if you are the primary Card Member or are authorized by the primary Card Member to redeem points.
